Another one by Betty Mbitjana! 👌🏽

This beautiful black & white is by Betty Mbitjana. Born circa 1954 in the artistically rich area of Utopia , Betty Mbitjana is the daughter of one of Australia's most renowned artists Minnie Pwerle and the sister of celebrated artist Barbara Weir. Now married to Paddy Club, Betty exudes a great passion for painting that has led her to become a talented and highly collectible artist in her own right. Her vivaciously coloured paintings rich in cultural significance have made a... remarkable impact on the Aboriginal Art scene. Betty's paintings depict the designs that the women would paint on their bodies, and the dancing tracks which are made in the sand during women's (awelye) ceremony. Through their awelye ceremonies, women pay homage to their ancestors, show respect for their country and dance out their collective maternal role within their community. A design based on these dancing tracks is painted on women's bodies before a ceremony is performed, and this same design can be seen today in Betty's works on canvas and in the works of her mother, sisters, and aunts. Ochre, charcoal and ash are all used to paint designs on the women's upper bodies, and Pwerle women paint their chests, breasts and upper arms for awelye in ochre, red and white. The designs they use have been passed down for many generations, and only the Pwerle or Kemarre owners can paint them. The rich colours and variety of patterns are distinguishing features of Betty's expressive artistic style. One of our favourite Artists- Kurun Warun. What an impact this work has!
Kurun Warun was born in Queensland in 1966 and is from the Gunditjmara tribe. Kurun’s line of heritage can be traced back to Truganini, the last living Tasmanian Queen. Kurun was taught and encouraged by his mother to begin painting at a young age and today he is internationally recognised for both his artistic and musical skills. Living and working now in Noosa hinterland in South East Queensland, Kurun...’s works represent the development of contemporary Aboriginal abstract art. While his paintings are often not clear at first glance, the stories they portray begin to reveal themselves through colour, line and space. Kurun Warun also finds expression through traditional dance and music. Being an accomplished didgeridoo musician he has performed around the world in places as far flung as Italy and Korea. He played a role in the Sydney 2000 Olympic games as a traditional artist, has appeared on NBC in the United States and before Chelsea Clinton, former US president's daughter. #aboriginalartgalleries #aboriginalart #art #artlovers #artcollector #artinvestment #sydneygallery #australianart #painting #ethicalart #authenticart

Spirit figures by Shane! Shane Haurama is a Sydney based contemporary Aboriginal artist. Shane’s lineage derives from the Tiwi Islands, with both his mother and father being descendants of Bathurst Island, while his maternal ancestors hark from the Waramanga people who inhabit the regions of Tennant Creek and Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia.
Inspired by the figurative aesthetic of the sculptures produced by the Manubada people of Yule Island that lies bet...ween Cape York and Papua New Guinea, Shane crafts artworks that typically represent the story of the Feather Foot (Kadachi Man), Yawkyawk, Mimih Spirit and his own tribal totem, the Jabiru. Shane reflects his sensitivity to Country through his use of recycled materials, respecting the land that he and his people have such strong connections to. #aboriginalartgalleries #spiritfigures #sculpture #sydneygallery #artcollector #artlover #theqvb

Another beautiful piece by Sarrita King!
Sarrita King was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1988. She is the younger sister to fellow artist, Tarisse King and daughter to the late highly regarded artist, William King Jungala (1966 – 2007). Sarrita inherits her Australian Aboriginality from her father who was part of the Gurindji clan from the Northern Territory. The Gurindji clan came to public attention during the 1960s and 1970s when members employed by the Wave Hill ca...ttle station led a landmark case which became the first successful land rights claim in Australia. It is this same strong sense of self and pride that Sarrita embodies and it fuels her drive to paint her totemic landscape. Sharing this wonderful black & white painting by Ronnie Tjampitjinpa. Ronnie was born near the Kintore Ranges in Western Australia around 1943. His family, who lived in the traditional manner, soon moved to Papunya, a community in the Northern Territory known for its quality art. It was in Papunya that Western craft practices were combined with traditional Indigenous imagery for the first time. Ronnie began painting in 1975 after observing the first artists working with acry...lic paints and canvas. He soon emerged as one of their major artists. Ronnie’s work reflects his strong ties to his country and Dreaming stories. His work is in the traditional Pintupi style, consisting of simple geometric forms and a restricted palette. Ronnie’s work has been exhibited widely throughout Australia and overseas, and is included in many important public and private collections (see more of Ronnie works on our website) #aboriginalartgalleries #aboriginalart #sydneygallery #art #artinvestment #artlovers #artistsoninstagram #australianart

Sharing this beautiful painting by Anna Petyarre. Anna Petyarre was born in 1965, and is the daughter of the late Glory Ngarla and niece to the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye. Her country is Alhalkere and her language is Anmatyerre. Anna is a very talented artist and paints ‘Yam”, ‘Wildflower”, ‘Emu’ ‘Wild Potato” and ‘Campsite Dreaming. Earlier in her career, Anna depicted these DREAMINGS using a bright bold linear style; however, recently Anna has made use of intricate dot work with very small blocks of colour. #aboriginalartgalleries #aboriginalart #artinvestment #originalart #australianart #sydneygallery #art #artlover #annapetyarre

‘Seven sisters dreaming’ by Gabriella Possum Nungarrayi This painting depicts ‘The Seven Sisters’ Dreaming, a story based upon a cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. Taught to Gabriella by her grandmother, and inherited from her father, Clifford Possum, this story takes place at “twenty mile” located near Napperby Creek in the Northern Territory. The Seven Sisters travelled over a vast expanse of country, until they realised that they were being followed by a man call...ed Wati-Nyiru (who was a Tjakamarra man). The women were frightened of Wati-Nyiru as he was an evil man who wanted to seduce the sisters and have ownership of them. They tried to hide from the man in caves, however he began disguising himself as many different things to deceive them. With little hope of escape, the seven sisters fled through a fire at Kurlunyalimpa to the Milky Way where they became the stars of the Plaeiadies in the Constellation Taurus. There they are safe, and at rest and watch out over all the women on earth. Wati-Nyiru followed them to the heavens, becoming the star Orion, unable to reach them as they move across the night sky. Here Gabriella paints the cloud formations in front of the Milky Way in the night sky. The seven concentric circles represent the seven sisters while the lone star depicts Orion (the Tjakamarra man).
