I‚Äôve been quietly working away on some print commissions. My A/P‚Äôs of ‚ÄėThe Broken Compass‚Äô and ‚ÄėBird in the Hand‚Äô are both landing in London as I type. Getting to see these babies at such an epic scale (2000mm prints) is such a thrill! Watching all of the glorious details appear without any deterioration makes shooting on a medium format camera worth while! *New work* from my series ‚ÄúInto the Gloaming‚ÄĚ. The medieval tale of the "Knight of the Swan" tells of a mysterious knight in a swan-drawn boat who defends a damsel. The legend first appears in the Crusade cycle, where the Swan Knight is the ancestor of Godfrey of Bouillon, the first ruler of the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem. The chivalric romance features heavily in Arthurian literature and has been adapted in mythological history for hundreds of years. Circles of Knights ...throughout Europe wore swan motifs by virtue of their descent from the Swan Knight. Royal houses adopted the swan motif as their heraldic badges to claim decent from the Swan Knight. The swan, gorged and chained with a crown was even worn by the Prince of Wales in medieval England. Many claim decent from the mythical royal bloodline of the Knight Swan. Even today, the mute swan is protect by the Queen of England under a law established in the 12th century.

As we face the end of March, I thought it high time I release a new artwork for my series "Into the Gloaming". This also marks an exciting time for me, as we wind up our English adventure and return home in Australia! For good! ūüéČ YIPPEE YIPPEE YIPPEE!!! We are counting down the days - 30 days till arrival in Sydney!
Which means it‚Äôs only 1 month until I take the stage at the Aperture Conference in Sydney! I really hope you can join me SATURDAY 28TH 1:10pm as I share my jour...ney as an artist. Aperture Australia Photography Conference Now, onto my *NEW WORK* ūüéļ We shot this in Australia before we left for England, and, in the madness of the past two years, I have only now managed to complete this work. I hope you enjoy! "The awakening of Flora" In Roman mythology, Flora was the goddess of flowers and of the season of spring. Her image has been celebrated in art since classical antiquity and forms the central theme for my artwork "The awakening of Flora". Here, Flora is seen scattering roses, surrounded by swirling gusts of Zephyrus, the wind of March. The silk costuming is embroidered with flowers and embellished with silk flowers and fresh flowers. The Model was photographed on location in a private garden in the Southern Highlands. Italian Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli explored the transformation of Flora in his elaborate mythological allegory "Primavera". The painting features a group of mythological figures, beginning with Zephyrus, the biting wind of March, who transforms the nymph Chloris into a the deity "Flora". The goddess scatters roses on the ground and is eternal bearer of life.

In 2013 I received an invitation from the Royal Armoury in Stockholm to shoot my new series 'A Frozen Tale' in Skokloster Castle, one of Europe's finest baroque castles. The amazing thing about Skokloster Castle is that it is preserved in almost exactly the same condition as it was when it was built 350 years ago (the tools that were used the build the castle are still lying around!). To preserve its contents, there's no electricity or heating and parts of the castle are actu...ally frozen throughout winter, which is when I was there shooting with my courageous team and brilliant volunteers. It was a hugely challenging environment to shoot in, but this cabinet of curiosities was my winter wonderland for one magical weekend, and it proved to be the inspiration for some of my best work ever. I like to produce narrative pieces so I started by researching those important historical figures who had visited the castle over its lifetime. I also studied 17th century paintings to get a feeling for the period and this is what I got truly swept up in. Painters like Johannes Vermeer did so much exploration of middle-class life, showing ordinary people doing ordinary things. Ultimately, the series explores two different worlds within the same castle walls: the famous ruling class visitors and the people in the shadows, the middle and working class running the castle.
