User

good and bad,
good cuz in the center of the city, good staff,
bad because i had to change my room 4 times either due facility( A/C not working or room was smelly etc )
but it was a great trip, still i recommend it if u want to have extreme youth life

Place quite okay, but has some cons :

1. Because lots of people don't clean their dishes, the kitchen sometimes can't be used. They could improve by putting, for example, fines for people who don't clean up their dishes.

2. The bathrooms and toilets are sometimes clean, sometimes dirty, depending on where you sleep.

3. The WiFi is sometimes good, sometimes really, really, really bad (3 minutes just to upload a Facebook page)

The pros :

1. 24h reception

2. Friendly staff

3. Good air-conditioning

4. Good laundry and drying machines

Nice place, quiet, clean, friendly staff. Located in a good place of the city with walk distance to the attraction and easy transport to Bondi

You do NOT want to stay here. The lobby is nice enough, the staff is mostly friendly. But that's all.
The rooms are VERY dirty and they smell very badly. The lockers are bent out of shape -if they work at all- so it's very hard to open them. The beds are also missing pieces and are very unsteady.
There is a toilet and a shower in the room, which was nice. They were clean enough as well.
The second night there was loud music all through the night, from 10pm until 3 am, and it was so loud it was like you were actually in the club.
The key card you need to get into the room, were laying around everywhere, so that diminishes the safety al little bit...
The kitchen was nice, but there is very little equipment.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Attention:
Checkin only possible with "Tipi" App. The publisher of the app is without imprint and data protection. I therefore advise against the use of data protection/identity theft. Why a hostel deals with guest information so unsafe and no responsibility is incomprehensible!

Reasonably good hostel; fair size rooms, clean, friendly staff, nice lobby, large kitchen with enough room in the fridges. Central location close to Darling Harbour and Hyde Park.

Did not like the fact that the music is so loud in the lobby. It's like you are in a club so it's hard to relax or concentrate when doing something on the computer or your phone.

It's a big hostel so there's a lot of people running around here and making noise. I call hostels like this "factories" because they are just mass backpacker lodging facilities; not a place you stay to relax on because it's so cosy. Keep that in mind when you book.

I stayed here for a few nights in a mixed 10 bed dorm, however was the only female in there with 9 lads. Lovely people, but very Party central. Wouldn't recommend it personally unless you want to get really drunk on cheap wine.
However, if you are looking for a cheap stay it is pretty clean.

Great location. Kitchen wasn't the cleanest, bathrooms were ok, and elevator was painfully slow. But it has everything you if you just want a bed for a few nights.

The location is superb! Many places can be reached by foot as well as connection stations to go by train or bus.

The rooms' euqipment isn't the newest anymore but it's good enough for a few nights.

The room I stayed in could need some cleaning. There are chewing gums on the wall from earlier guests. The air conditioning is running 24/7 to keep the room at a comfortable temperature which with the trade off of a constant noise.

The toilet facilities are cleaned regularly but some people are being inconsiderate and leave things dirty or don't tidy up.

A lot of the inconveniences are caused by others guests so the hostel isn't really at fault.

User

Average backpackers. Good if your looking for a cheap option with no minimum nights, but a few dollars more a night will get you a much nicer hostel.

User

I stayed here in February 2017 with a few mates and would call Base an 'average' hostel. It is big, busy and has a bar next door, but that's about as far as the positives go. The room only had one locker that was still in shape and actually able to lock; there was no free wifi (not even at reception) and the sheets on our beds hadn't been changed from the last visitors.
If you're just looking for somewhere to crash for a few days, this place is fine. But I've stayed in better quality hostels for $40 a night.
