Iconic Aussie country rock band STARS are back again reunited after 40 years with the original line-up of Mick Pealing, Mal Eastick, Glyn Dowding and Roger McLachlan. Catch Stars with Nick Charles on guitar. Special guest KEVIN BENNETT.
Originally from Adelaide Stars moved to Melbourne after being discovered by Beeb Birtles of Little River Band. By this stage the Andy Durant joined the band and began writing some of the most notable Australian songs before his untimely death ...at the age of 25.
STARS supported The Beach Boys, Linda Ronstadt, and Joe Cocker and toured extensively to sell out gigs Australia wide. Many have said their country rock blend coupled with Durant’s lyrics were well ahead of their time and are often referred as Australia’s Eagles.
The band’s debut album Paradise peaked at No.11 on the Aussie charts and included their highest charting single Look After Yourself. This was followed by their second album Land of Fortune and then 1157 named after the number of live gigs they had done. The single Mighty Rock can be heard on radio today and is often requested by their loyal fan base. A tribute performance by STARS alongside many great Australian artists including Renee’ Geyer, and Richard Clapton, for band member Durant, produced a live album that peaked at No.8 on the charts and video that is to this day celebrated as one of the all- time greatest Australian concert. With new material being recorded, sell out shows in Melbourne, headlining Sydney Blues & Roots, Thredbo Blues and Brighter Days Festival, the band are ready to tour again. This is a much-anticipated return of this great Aussie Band.

Americana. It’s music that draws from America’s roots, from country, folk, bluegrass, R&B, the blues … But to Mark Lizotte, the musician known and loved as Diesel, Americana is the very core of his being. It’s the music of his childhood and, as an artist born in America and raised in Australia, a link back to the land he’d left behind. In short, he re-traces the steps of his musical education paying respect to Tom Petty, CCR, The Band, Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dy...lan, Neil Young. Chuck Berry took the blues, blended it with country music, and attached lyrics that perfectly captured the trials and tribulations of growing up in the USA during the 1950’s. His stunning sound was a major influence on The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and his potent musical mixture had an enormous effect on 20th Century popular music, continuing to this very day. The incredible band paying tribute includes leading Sydney musicians Jeremy Edwards (guitar - Liza Ohlback, “Pe...arl - Janis Joplin”, Glen Cardier), George Brugmans (drums - Ray Beadle, The Detonators), Adam Pringle (guitar - Mitchell Anderson, Rob Susz), Benny Edwards (bass - Ray Beadle), and Rob Woolf (keys - Rob Susz, Declan Kelly) - all Berry devotees! Expect to hear classics such as Maybelline, Little Queenie, Johnny B. Goode, O’ Carol, Roll Over Beethoven, Rockin’ in the USA and many, many more. Expect also to see a dance floor reeling’ and rocking’! Apart from the fabulous music the band entertains with brief anecdotes and insights into Chuck Berry “The Man” together with fascinating back stories to the songs and history of rock and roll.

We went last night for the Wendy Matthews show before hand we had dinner downstairs - just an entree each as we didn’t want to be overful - the male waiter seemed put out by this - I noticed he was angry about something else later on throwing menus and cutlery down near us very unprofessional I thought - he gave me a talking to also when I asked if I could order dessert upstairs at the show - he very sternly and abruptly told me I should have booked that prior if that’s what I’d wanted (turned out you could easily order dessert and coffee etc upstairs

I didn’t feel his attitude was necessary an changed my opinion of dining there - shame as the food we had (cannelloni and spaghetti) was nice

I came back here after 2 years away in the US and I was bitterly disappointed. I came back here with girlfriends fro a catch up and this place USE to be reliable for quality meals.
The meals were never in big portions, but now the quality is just not good for the money they are asking per plate
I don't know why, but my beans were hollow, chewy and tasteless and my carrots were tough and fiberos.
I think they have a new chef in the kitchen, because the quality always goes down when this happens. And from what I can tell about other comments I am not alone in my experience.
1 star for the desert, but ruining my meal experience with the main.
F*@$ing annoyed, because we could have gone elsewhere that was much better
Although the desert was still nice as always, I think if you want a good meal there are plenty of other places in Wollongong you can go to

User

The food here is impeccable. We had the soft shell crab and whitebait fritters for starters and for mains the gnocchi duck ragu and the the veal backstrap garnished with giant king prawns. The service was great and this place is a gem. Visiting from Germany and having eaten in many places on our trip, my husband and I recommend Centro CBD to anyone who is in or passing through Wollongong!!! Worth a trip from Sydney any day.

User

Outstanding food and service!
Thank to Robert, Daniela and the team for make my daughters christening celebration such a wonderful day. With two weeks notice due to our previous venue cancelling on us, I contacted Centro. Daniela & Robert were so helpful & accomodating with me during a stressful time. I'm so happy that we ended up at Centro after all, I couldn't of asked for a better venue to celebrate such an occasion. Our guests complemented us countless times throughout the afternoon on how great the food was & the attentiveness of you staff. I highly recommend Centro for any function or celebration. We will be back regularly for dinner and or lunch. Thank you again. The Wilsons

User

Disappointing.
Our main meals tasted ordinary, and we all said the beans tasted very biter and tough.
And I thought it was very over priced for what we got.
I can think of other places to eat over this one.
But, the deserts were pretty nice though

User

Don't bother.
Any restaurant can make something taste good because of sauces and spices, but what about the taste of the item being flavoured?
I felt so strongly about this I just had to review this, as it's another restaurant gone down the toilet and obviously cutting corners.
My husband went there for lunch with work mates last week and came home complaining the food was tasteless, and we put it down to just having a bad day.
But when we went Saturday night we both experienced the same issue again we knew this was no accident and a taste of how things are going to be from now on.
My girl friend ate there today and had the same issue we did, and I became very upset by this I just had to review.
This used to be one of my favourite places to go, but not anymore.
I am very annoyed because it is very obviously about cutting corners.
This place was always a reliable food spot for me, with a rich and complex taste experience, but no more.
I will definitely be finding some where else to eat and for a foodie like me, it probably wont be hard to find in Wollongong with all of that choice.

User

Overpriced drinks and serving a small meal in addition to entertainment costs with everyone left hungry and no vegetables whilst currently options of carrots and broccoli are $2.50 a kg. Then charge $15 for a dessert donut. Will outprice themselves in the market. Will not eat there again as opinion was from the rest of the table

User

good food good fantastic service

User

Well run with friendly staff, good food and a pleasant atmosphere.

User

Disappointed on second visit, last year food was great and service too, however this latest visit was very poor.
Food is overpriced and everyone left hungry due to small portions. I paid almost $40 for what was meant to be veal backstrap with king prawns, instead it was more like minute steak with 2 of the smallest king prawns I've ever eaten. The oysters entree (not cheap either) had shell throughout it and did not taste fresh at all.
Salmon dish was tiny, semolina gnocchi dry and flavorless, the only dish that was decent was the seafood platter..
Definitely won't be back.
