The Bolt Hole is proud to be hosting The Perfect Blend Grand Final 2018 and some of the best bartenders from around Australia and New Zealand this Wednesday the 16th of May. The Perfect Blend is a compettion that has travelled across Australia and New Zealand, all in the search of 12 state finalists.
The 12 finalists are coming to Byron Bay, a destination known for its stunning beaches, excellent surf breaks, and hippie hospitality - and the town’s locals are all about sustai...nable living, both for themselves and the land. The finalists brief is designed to challenge their thinking based on this, as well as sustainability from within and personal health.
The Bolt Hole is a dimly lit refuge in the heart of Byron Bay so we thought it appropriate to ensure we used recycled and up-cycled materials where possible. A local surf shop and backpackers being pulled down provided the timber which clads the whole venue – even the bathrooms. The bar and back bar utilises wood from a torn down footbridge next to the beach. Our hand made furniture features a 1950’s Ogden lawn mower, vintage scales, old bicycle pieces, circular saws and a host of other quirky items which had a previous life as something else.
We are purveyors of good times, tasty cocktails and awesome smokehouse BBQ so our main fuel to cook is wood – this is the most sustainable cooking fuel.
Our sustainable approach to the venue build, furniture and drinks are much loved and talked about by guests.
The Grand Final is running in the day on Wednesday the 16th of May and not open to the public.
We will open as usual from 5pm and guests can come along. These hospitality legends will be enjoying food, drinks and slinging a few cocktails!

The food is terrible. The meat plater was so over cooked, dry, tasteless and disappointing. Even the wings were dry and over cooked. We asked for extra BBQ sauce to try and make it eatable and we were bought a watery, tasteless marinade. Definitely not a place that I would tell anyone to eat at. Very disappointing.
