I cannot believe the rudeness, lack of common decency and regard for people disposed to me and my father by the consul! My father and I rang him several times to confirm this requirements for Ukrainian visa in the last few months. We received rude and conflicting messages from this consul. Finally, I had to go to Ukrainian foreign affairs in Kyiv and I was proceeded what seemed a correct information. We complied with the advice. However, our application once again was revered back to this man in Canberra! After discussing the situation with him on the phone, we decided to drive from Melbourne to Canberra to obtain a visa having satisfied the requirements. What we arrived to Canberra this afternoon (by car), we were told that 1. He will not speak to me as I am not as former Ukrainian citizen (I went to Australian from London on soviet passport in 1991 and did not have Ukrainian passport); 2. My father can only get a visa is he fills the application farm(done), come to see him in Canberra - that was later denied this morning; 3. My father needs an invitation to stay in Ukraine; 4. My father needs to book and pay for his hotel in Ukraine’s for the 2 months he was planning to stay in Ukraine. All this to get a stamp on his Australian Passport! My dad was widowed recently after looking after my invalid mother for 24 years in Australia. He is 82 years old. He wanted to see his beloved Ukraine and his friends this year after all these years... but the Ukrainian consul was unhelpful, gave him and me deliberately wrong and incomplete advise and we ended up not having a visa (I abandoned my efforts to visit Ukraine now). We will not give up!!! My dad will go to Ukraine anyway!!! Please stop this horrible bullying of Australian citizens who want to visit friends and family in Ukraine!!! It is outrageous. Shame on you, consul! You are a passive aggressive bully.
