Our last sunrise before home time... already missing the island life but also can’t wait to see everybody again! 🏝
Like Karen, I have experienced trauma in a yoga space — Mysore, India to be specific. However, unlike her, I was scared and it wasn’t until recently that I’ve decided to take the conscious decision to cut ties with institutions, in my case KPJAYI and Sharath Jois’ list of “authorised” Ashtanga Yoga schools worldwide which in more ways than one failed the victims of sexual assault and “guru/teacher” misconduct.
Yesterday was Guru Purnima, a day when devotees express their gra...titude towards their Guru for enlightenment. I don’t have a guru nor do I wish to be deemed as one. But you have all been teachers to me as much as my students and for that I am grateful.
Let’s keep Ashtanga Lab a.k.a. The Canberra Seniors Centre a #GURUFREEZONE

Trigger warning: Post contains details of sexual assault and the silencing of a victim of sexual assault. The descriptions are detailed and emotionally charged.

Keen to join me for some Ashtanga Dogue-ah? 🐶
Ashtanga Mysore Style tomorrow at 6:45am and because it's the last Friday of the month, I'm teaching a guided Ashtanga Half-Primary Series class at 7:00am. Will be going through the same sequence, but on MY count.
All are welcome! =)
NEW WINTER CLASS SCHEDULE IS OUT!
Reduced Mysore Style classes to twice weekly so Monday, Wednesday and Fridays will be for self-practice. HOWEVER, please note that I am introducing a Led Ashtanga Primary Class every last Friday of the month and I highly recommend this to anybody who has been "dabbling" with the practice for any period of time.
Shoot me a message if you have any questions, and I really look forward to seeing familiar and new faces in the near future.
Hi everyone,
My grandma passed away yesterday and I am taking the first flight out to Manila tomorrow to spend time with my family.
That said, all instructed classes with be cancelled next week, however the space will be open for self-practice. The awesome Sam has volunteered to open up the space for self-practice and you are welcome to shoot him a message at +61 411 716 058 if you are intending to come.
... I am really sorry for being all over the place at the moment.
Keep practicing! Practice what you can — even if it’s just stepping on the mat to just pause or breath or even do what you know.

Join us for a week of relaxation, yoga and surf in one of the Philippines most beautiful islands, Siargao. This is a great opportunity to deepen your practice under the guidance of a seasoned Ashtanga Yoga teacher, while having ample time to explore the nearby islands and beaches.
The retreat will be held at Lotus Shores Yoga, Surf and Farm Retreat. Located in the jungles of the island and comfortably removed from the hustle and bustle of the tourist town --- just 200 meters...

When Ashtanga, Crossfit, swing dancing and bouldering aren’t enough....
Here’s proof that toppling over won’t kill you (or wreck your face.) This is five years in the making and I’m still not quite getting it.
I catch myself angry, frustrated and even pissed at myself for still not being able to do it (especially while my #ashtanga peers are nailing it) but that’s just me — a reflection my competitive, impatient, self-deprecating, unkind self. I have to constantly remind myself that my advancement in yoga postures does not make me a better student, teacher AND human being. #notetoself
I’m a sucker for social media and I believe how it can be so deceiving to the point of depressing. So, I’m just going to practice what I post... let’s rock! 🙌🏼 #ashtangayoga #mysorestyle #memyselfandi #yogadaily #kino #ashtangayogachallenge #parampara #ashtangacanberra
Not very long ago, I was assaulted by a person who I thought was my friend while I was in Mysore, India studying Ashtanga Yoga at #KPJAYI — a fellow student & an authorised teacher. I am no longer ashamed to say it. I think, if there’s someone who should be, that’s him and all the others who say, “that’s why girls shouldn’t hang out with boys,” and that “I asked for it.” I still go thru days blaming and hating myself for allowing it to happen, and days when all I want is a cl...ean and immediate “out.” And then I remember that my dogs can’t take care of themselves just yet, and I have a class to teach then I snap out of it. After a three year hiatus, I am easing my way back in the work force. In the mornings, I still get to teach #ashtangayoga to a small but dedicated community. Afterwards, I either make my way to school where I’m studying to become a dog-tor’s assistant or go to work at the Animal Hospital where I get to work with a team of animal specialists dedicated in making the lives of animals better. In between, I spend my time with my furfamily.
I have fewer friends now, I guess the consequence when “shit happens,” but I really couldn’t care less. They don’t drink or do drugs, they don’t mind early nights, they love my dogs AND they also take their coffee VERY seriously. So for the first time in a long time, I think I’m going to be ok. I could be better but.... I AM OK. 💕

My dogs are running out of Yog-asana photos to post to entice and motivate more people to practice — whether it is Ashtanga, or whatever form of ‘practice.’ So here I am in Kukkutasana! 🤗
Before you judge, let me tell you how unmotivated I am and how embarrassingly SHIT my practice is at the moment (yeah, some days are really good and most days, practice can be a complete disaster.)
But I guess that’s the beauty of a Mysore practice. When it comes down to it, it’s not about... being able to do the perfect “jump back” or touching beyond your toes, neither it is about being strong or super flexible. It’s about showing up, even if it’s for no reason at all.
