Reliably delicious - for the past decade and beyond I've tried to eat at Au Lac every time I'm in Canberra (a few times each year). Great range of tastes, always prepared with care, and as a vegetarian it's great to know that the Laksa, Tom Yum, etc have no shrimp paste or other hidden animal products!

This is a great vegan restaurant. I liked the caramel topped deep fried soy ice cream best (my first time tying it), followed by the tofu satay, which was an above average tofu satay dish. I also tried the viet crepe, rice, and 5 or so other dishes that escape my mind. Something along the lines of snow pees thingy, honey something, broken rice, viet cannelloni. I only really liked the ice-cream, snow peas thing and the tofu dish out of personal taste.

They didn't pressure us to order quickly or anything, which was nice. And, staff were always on hand if we did want things, like water or extra food.

Pricing was fair and reasonable - pretty average. The variety of options made it attractive to shout the meals on my table and for a group of 8 getting all the food we wanted and sharing stuff it worked out to $20 each (no drinks ordered). Yes, portions were average but we were all content/full by the end.

We were there to meet fellow donors and evaluators of high impact charities. For visitors to Canberra, note that there are two Au Lac's restaurants and you may want to confirm with your group which one you are meeting at.

That was for dinner, after we went there for lunch as well. You can't have too much of a good thing, right?

Sad little animal flesh eaters.. it's funny that they will take the time to post a fake rubbishing review on a vegan restaurant. Obviously if you enjoy eating dead animals, this restaurant is not for you. If on the other hand, you are not too silly to realise we shouldn't be eating animal's corpses.. you will thoroughly enjoy the beautiful food, atmosphere and staff at this establishment.

I find the concept of this place strange, surely vegetarians and vegans don't want to eat meat, and surely others would be happier eating real meat? The menu is large and varied, with soy substitutes for a variety of different meat dishes. The actual soy meat is awful, it tastes like burnt plastic and has nothing in common with real meat past appearances. The mussaman curry sauce we had was good, I just avoided the "meat" chunks. The actual traditional vegetarian dishes without any artificial meat were great, especially the eggplant clay pot sensation. If you are a meat eater, or have taste buds, I'd recommend going for the tofu and vegetable based dishes and avoiding the artificial meats. The desserts and drinks were good. The prices were fairly high.

Awful food my deep fried I don't know what it was but certainly nothing I'm familiar wirh except the tofu. Tasted like the oil was old and left a nasty bitter aftertaste. Outrageously expensive for vegetables and fake meat. You may as well go somewhere else pay the same price for real prawns or real beef. When we arrived the waitress wanted to sit us at a table that was literally adjoining another groups table as though we were part of their group. I asked to sit elsewhere and she looked at me as though I'd demanded her first born child and insisted it was the only available table for 2 when there was clearly other tables. I pointed to a table and asked if we could have that one and she advised it was a table for 3 I said fine we'll go somewhere else as I didn't want to sit with a group of people I don't know. Then she relented. The food was salty greasy and unsatisfying. Won't be returning ever

I have been coming to this restaurant very often.

However, thiz evening, the waiter was so rude as I was approaching the restaurant, he quickly locked the door, not even to tell me that it's still closed, the time was 1655hrs, and his face was sour. Very disappointing....

I have nothing to lose in fact, unbelievable!

Brilliant food, whether you're vegan or not. Great value, too. Best restaurant in Dickson, one of the very best in Canberra. Absolutely recommended.

User

Pretty good food with a decent selection. A little pricey but not bad. Annoying that they don't split bills.
