Most of us have experienced a headache at some point in our lives. Sometimes we describe our headaches as migraines, thumping headaches, ache behind the eyes or tension. 🤕
Chronic headache is one of the most common neurological complaints presenting to GPs in Australia. Not surprisingly it is also one of the most common complaints we as osteopaths see in practice.
Many people do not seek medical advice for the treatment of headache and rather resort to over the counter medi...

Most of us know that we need to keep ourselves well hydrated to keep ourselves healthy. However, a lot fewer understand the importance of structured water in body physiology. 💦
Structured water carries negative charge and scientific data have confirmed the following health benefits for structured water:
* improved digestion
... * eliminates cellular waste and toxins
* strengthens immune response
* reduces excess acidity in blood
* reduces cholesterol levels (prevents arteriosclerosis) - Cholesterol deposits are due to free radical oxidation while skin wrinkles are caused by free radical cross linkage of collagen molecules, and this can be reduced with negatively charged/structured water
* helps blood circulation (prevents varicose veins) - Poor circulation, high blood pressure, arterial sclerosis and cellulite from cholesterol deposits are dissolved by structured water when used for drinking and cooking.
* skin becomes softer and less wrinkled
* Arthritis, kidney stones and gall bladder stones are alleviated by a rebalancing of the calcium metabolism with structured water

In our busy daily life, how do we find a way to decrease stress, improve our mood and boost immunity? Well, maybe we can do so by taking advantage of the nature surrounding Canberra. A study by the Centre for Environment, Health and Field Sciences at Chiba University of Japan has found that forest environments lower cortisol (a stress related hormone), lower pulse rate, lower blood pressure, lower sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) activity, while increase paras...ympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) activity. So why not take a break and enjoy the beautiful nature we have available here in the ACT.
"The environment’s wisdom has long been evident to the (Japanese) culture: Japan’s Zen masters asked: If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears, does it make a sound? 🤔 To discover the answer, masters do nothing, and gain illumination. Forest bathing works similarly: Just be with trees. 🌲🌳 No hiking, no counting steps on a Fitbit. You can sit or meander, but the point is to relax rather than accomplish anything." 🧘‍♂️🧘‍♀️

The diaphragm.... Yes, we have still more to talk about the diaphragm which has "whole body effects, from tip to toes and mouth and nose", according to Dr. Rosalba Courtney (Osteopath). https://www.rosalbacourtney.com/the-diaph ragm-whole-body-e…/ * The anatomical connections of the diaphragm are far reaching and surprising. * The diaphragm has an astounding number of functions beyond breathing. * Breathing physically moves the brain and affects the whole nervous system.... * The diaphragm has many proprioceptive or sensory fibers to help it function as an exchange point for information originating from the brain and different areas of the body and as a source of information in itself. 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️

Patients often ask why we are treating their "chest" when the pain is in their lower back. Here is one of many studies explaining the link between diaphragm function and lower back pain. https://medicalxpress.com/…/2018-06-dia phragm-linked-chroni…
