SERVICES
TUNING

Piano tuning involves stretching some 220 + strings to a specific tension usually relative to a pitch of A at 440Hz. This ability is not a natural talent and does not require “perfect pitch” but thousands of hours of intense training and cannot be performed by an amateur.

At AR Piano Tuning we place great importance on oral tuning as it is recognized as the superior method of tuning. A tune usually takes 1-2 hours depending on the piano and how regular it has been tuned.

Manufactures suggest getting your piano tuned every seasonal change and serviced once every 3-5 years to maintain the maximum quality and longevity of your instrument. As this may be financially unviable for most households we recommend getting your piano tuned annually.

Pitch Raise

A pitch raise is when a piano is raised from its current pitch to concert pitch (A440). A pitch raise is preformed over two consecutive tunings about a week apart. This is required when a piano is significantly out of tune due to neglect and irregular tuning.

Regulation

Regulation refers to the adjustment of the mechanics of the action (keys, hammers, dampers etc. ). This is a commonly misunderstood and neglected part of pianos. Regulation is significantly important as an unregulated piano will restrict the performance of the player and can dramatically change the overall potential of the piano.

Minor regulation will be performed during your regular tune but a full regulation should be considered every 3-5 years depending on the pianos use.

Voicing

Voicing is when a piano technician alters the density of a pianos hammer felt to change the overall tonal quality.

Repairs

Minor repairs can usually be fixed within the house hold in a relatively short amount of time; although supplies may have to be ordered. This includes broken strings or hammers and any clicking or irregularities within your piano.

Restoration

Restoration usually refers to structural damage within the piano where the piano will have to be removed from the household for and extended amount of time. During this process parts of the piano may need to be rebuilt or replaced.
