Canberra Student Housing Co-Operative Description
The Canberra Student Housing Co-operative is a group of students commited to providing secure, affordable, quality housing for students in Canberra, based on a co-operative model.
We are motivated by the current rental crisis in Canberra, and believe that students can be part of the solution. We formed to create this solution, believing that a place to live while studying can be much more than a crash pad. We seek to create a home that fosters opportunity for personal expression and shared learning, a home where people share responsibility and can learn from and support each other.
We operate 5 units in Havelock House in association with the Havelock Housing Association and Community Housing ACT. The first unit opened in October 2011, the second in February 2012, and the third and fourth in July 2012. We got a fifth unit in April 2013! We are commited to further expansion in consultation with government and other not-for-profit organisations.
The Co-operative is governed by its primary members, consisting of the residents and several non-residential directors. If you would like to get involved, feel free to come along to one of our Sunday pot-luck dinners /meetings, or send us an email!

We’re still going! The last car load has arrived, we’ve still got heaps of clothes and appliances - even a television left!
The Canberra Student Housing Co-op is having a garage sale! But this one has a twist. EVERYTHING IS FOR FREE!
Why?
We believe in community, in giving and sharing and helping a neighbor out. We'll be holding a garage sale with all of our excess appliances, clothes, fridges, shoes, furniture, books, and plenty of other miscellaneous items. The garage sale will start at 10am and go until 4pm, or earlier if everything goes.
... We will ask a gold coin donation for any items you choose, and the money raised will be donated to charity (yet to be determined). The exact location will be released closer to the event but it WILL BE IN TURNER.Please,share this event and get the word out. Sharing is caring.
*Unfortunately, we can't accommodate for other people to bring their items to our garage sale. If you have things that you want to share, feel free to post pictures of them in this event page or share them on the "Buy Nothing" Facebook page for your suburb, or host your own Buy Nothing Garage Sale!

We had the pleasure of running our Activism and Organising Training Weekend over the past 2 days. Thanks to all those who attended and a special thank you to the many volunteers (some coming all the way from Sydney!!) who presented workshops :)

Ever wanted to learn about community organising and activism in Canberra? Come skill-share with us!
Over Saturday the 28th of April and Sunday the 29th the Canberra Student Housing Co-op will be hosting a training weekend for students and community members in Canberra with little or no-prior experience keen to become involved in activism.
Workshops will include media training, community mapping, action planning, an introduction to non-violent direct action, community accoun...tability and a whole lot more. We’ll have some great speakers teaching us about the history of activism in Canberra, and organisers travelling down from groups like the Australian Student Environment Network (ASEN) to help out.
