It's time to get your dancing shoes on and give SWING DANCING a go! Get fit, meet new friends and have a ball in this fun, no-pressure environment. All welcome - come alone or bring some friends!
With a touch of vintage flavour, we're a young bunch of fun people who love to bring the dances, music and style of the 1920's-50's to today. Known for our high energy, high flying performances and super fun classes, Canberra Swing Katz specialise in Charleston, Lindy Hop and related Swing Dances.
Canberra Swing Katz offer group and private classes, Canberra's only award winning Swing dance performance team for hire, events and social dancing.
Swing dancing originated as a social dance, and that’s how we like to keep it! The funnest way to get active and meet new people, our classes are designed to get you feeling confident asap! Learn all the basic steps and fundamental leading /following techniques you need to look and feel great on the dance floor. You don’t even need to bring a partner or pre-register, just turn up on the night.
Beginner’s courses run as 6-week blocks introducing you to Charleston and Lindy Hop (the original style of Swing! ). With an integrated approach, you'll be able to use both steps as building blocks for your dancing and improvising in no time! Once you complete one Beginner's course, you're ready to join the Intermediate course! It’s best if you can make it each week, but if you miss one or two classes – don’t worry! Come back as soon as you can on any night and we’ll catch you up. You can also commence your course in Week 2.
Classes are held at Majura Community Hall, 2 Rosevear Place, Dickson on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes cost $12 each, or $60 for a 6-Week block. Once you have done the beginners course and decide to stay for multiple classes, you pay no more! $12 covers the whole night, no matter how many classes you do, or you can buy a 10-class pass for $100. The more you swing the more you save! Thursday classes are followed by the Swing Katz Speakeasy, our regular social night from 9. 30-10. 30pm every fortnight. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun!
