Contentious Character Winery Description

The Contentious Character Story

What’s a little contention between friends?
Contrasting views make life more interesting,
and wine more rewarding.
We may challenge each other,
but united, we stand our ground,
and answer to just three things.
Our hearts.
Our tastebuds.
And the like-minded folk who visit us.
Everything else is debatable.
After all, in Canberra taking sides comes with the territory.

So here’s to you, however you are.

Come visit, raise a glass, ruffle some feathers,
and celebrate your contentious character.
It makes you someone worth drinking with.

The Founders Museum - A unique tasting experience

Every story starts somewhere, ours harks back to the old-vine Lambert Vineyards. When we moved in, we became caretakers to a legacy, and a collection of lovingly made wine, aging gracefully in the cellar. Pre-aged, this Founder’s (The Lambert Family) Museum wine is ready to dust-off and drink now, or cellar a few years longer. It’s your call.

‘The Lambert family made high quality wines with great skill and sensitivity. ' (Halliday Wine Companion 2017).

These aged wines have matured exceptionally well with cellaring and now present a mellow complexity, way beyond their value, and will be complemented by the Contentious Character range in mid 2017.

Look across the vineyard and surrounding countryside, while our kitchen serves up a fresh, local farm based menu, including wood-fired pizza, cheese and charcuterie.

We pair our food to our wine (not the wine to the food! ), enjoy the difference it makes at the table.

A relaxed and casual environment created by eclectic furnishings, and the friendly and local service.

Weddings, corporate and family events designed to your taste.

Open Saturday & Sunday 10am -5pm.

We'll be embracing tradition with a twist, just like our wines. An Aussie BBQ with native herbs and spices in the vines, paired with the 2017 Come the Raw Prawn Riesling, 2018 Rose, 2015 Merlot and for those who really enjoy a good Merlot, our 2010 will be there to celebrate with. If it's ready, a taste of the 2018 Riesling, a truly Aussie wine, Dry as a Dead Dingoes Donga, for those game. Speaking of being game, there will be games for the kids while Mum and Dad sit back in the shade comfortably ensconced with one of the above said wines, or if you're not a wine lover, one of the latest of Canberra's best craft beers. More information coming soon.

From 5pm to midnight New Years Eve, we’ll be serving generous and scrumptious meals for picnicking on the lawn or deck, followed by a cheese and dessert selection, with laid back Outlaw Country Blues by the Guitar Cases Quartet, Canberra’s hardest working original musos, easing their way into the new year. When the sun goes down the night revs up with a switch to upbeat dancing tunes - think Redgum meets Johnny Cash, JJ Cale, Howlin Wolf and T-Bone Walker! There will also b...e some surprise wine tastings throughout the night. Come anytime from 5pm, that suits your family or friends. Cash bar for wines, beers and Sangria. A transport shuttle will be available for guests, details to come. Please include your address at check out or register your interest through the website and they will contact you with further detail on pick up times and costs, as it becomes available.

The Happy Friday night transforms into a Barbecued Summer Seafood menu on this occasion. Come the Raw Prawn, their 2017 Riesling will be delighted to sit alongside a fresh or barbecued prawn or fish, while the 2016 Chardonnay washes down the roast chicken and accompanying salads. With the warmer evenings now, a crisp, chilled 2018 Rose also goes down well with this menu. Work it all off with some games with the kids on the vineyard lawn, if you're game. Email or just book a table online.

Your glass is empty and so is your plate; don’t let that happen; a Chicken Caciatore, Spring vegetable Tagliatelle, a Salami and charred zucchini pizza or a Potato and Rosemary pizza await your plate while a happy hour glass of 2016 Pinot Gris, Born to Make Taste Buds Bloom will fill your glass tonight @contentiouscharacter

Tomorrow is our Halloween lunch. A trick for the kids but a treat for Mum and Dad, enjoying lunch and a glass of wine while the kids run our team ragged around the vineyard- good luck team! @contentiouscharacter Boooooo!!

User

A parent? Need a wine? We’re throwing a Halloween lunch where you can bring the kids too. While the sound of this is quite debatable, we make the idea all the more palatable. We keep the kids entertained, leaving you to unwind and enjoy our newly released Founders Museum 2010 Merlot. This isn’t a trick it’s most definitely a treat. Treat yourself.@contentiouscharacter
