I am inspired by a sense of history and nostalgia in both my art practice and my production work. The jewellery pieces are reminiscent of ancient ceramic shards, and broken tiles.
I create the surfaces by layering up coloured slips (runny clay) in a painterly fashion on a plaster slab. When dry it is peeled away to reveal the image in reverse. Shapes are then cut from the clay to create the forms for my jewellery pieces. Each one is altered and refined many times before the final product. The finished pieces are like miniature abstract paintings and no two can ever be the same.
