Health Care Consumers' Association Inc Description

Health Care Consumers Association (HCCA) embraces the use of social media for health promotion and engaging with our membership and consumers. HCCA recognises that every post on social media by HCCA reflects on our organisation and is our public statement. HCCA uses social media both as a way to draw on existing consumer knowledge and resources in the ACT to develop flexible systems for strengthening public participation in health and to support personal and social development through providing information, education for health, and by doing so increasing options available to consumers to exercise more control over their own health as stated in the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion.
The purpose of the Health Care Consumers Association Facebook page is to allow health consumers (patients, their families and carers) to share experiences, issues and ideas with other consumers on ways to improve Australian healthcare.
While this is an open forum, it's also a respectful and considerate one, so please consider your comments. In addition to keeping the conversation respectful, we ask that you follow our posting guidelines here. If you don't comply, your comment will be removed:

1. HCCA encourages all members of the Facebook page to “think before posting” Members should recognise that even if posting to a private section of a social media site, comments can appear in public areas through a variety of means and can easily be found. Members should avoid posting something they will regret now or later.
2. Do not post confidential information or personal information about yourself or another individual. This includes identifying an individual by their real name or providing personal contact information, email address, Facebook or other online social network name, phone number, place of work /school etc.
3. Do not post or link to any inappropriate, offensive or illegal material. Inappropriate content is anything that may offend or is not relevant to the discussion.
4. Do not post anything that could be considered intolerant of a person’s race, culture, descent, national origin, religion, ethnicity, appearance, gender, sexual preference, religion, age or disability.
5. Do not post anything which racially or religiously vilifies others or impersonate or falsely represent any other person.
6. Do not use any foul language, harass, threaten, defame, intimidate or embarrass any person or organisation or government. Disguising swear words by deliberately misspelling them does not make them any less offensive. A discussion post comment is defamatory if it lowers or harms the reputation of a person or organisation.
7. Do not post any advertising material or unsolicited material (spamming).
8. Do not post material to the forum that infringes the intellectual property rights of others.
9. Do not promote commercial or professional interests in your posts.
10. Do not post any medical or legal advice, including recommendations that people change or stop their medications or treatment.
11. Do not incite, encourage or make reference to conduct that may constitute a criminal offence or violate Australian law.
