Hi,
I am Canberra born and live in an area with quick access to pollution free dark skies. I use full frame Nikon DSLR and Nikkor lenses to capture the night skies hopefully with some interesting foreground. Since seeing my first Aurora Australis in 1989 when I was living in Hobart Tasmania, one that filled half the heavens with a visible pink /red glow that I mistakenly first thought was the glow of a distant bushfire, I have developed an interest for photographing the aurora. With the ready availability of critical information about solar weather available on-line and collected by the DSCOVR spacecraft, it is possible to anticipate the arrival of conditions favourable to the aurora more accurately.
Applying this information, it took nearly a year before I captured by first Aurora Australis from just south of Canberra on 23 June 2015, in minus 2 degrees at 5. 00 am in the morning. This featured in an article in the Canberra Times: http://www. canberratimes.com. au /… /like-curtains-being-ruffl…. This aurora was visible clearly to the naked eye with reddish /pink beams visible to the side of Mt Tennent, near Tharwa in the ACT. My shots are printed with quality ink intended to last around 100 years without fading so the impact of the stunning image is preserved. Prices for prints are below.
