About Koitoya Japanese Woodworking Class

Woodworking Class based on Japanese tools and experience.
A night class: Every Tuesday nights, 3 hours between 17: 00~21: 00
Tutor: Hiroshi Yamaguchi

Koitoya Japanese Woodworking Class Description

This class will aim to give each student personal support to develop their own skills based on the knowledge of Japanese woodworking and hand tools.

Price: $60 per night (Pay per night) on Tuesday Night Class, or place yourself for a term to get discount price.
Thursday Night Class will have set course menu for the beginners.

• Limited machine work planned in this class.
• Hand router work can be included in the program.

Chigiri Plate Making 2 days, 17-18 Feb $215
What is Chigiri?... Chigiri plate is KOITOYA original designed wooden plate.
The Japanese word "Chigiri" means butterfly joint but also refers to a strong connection.
When given as a gift, these Chigiri plates demonstrate the giver’s personal ties to the receiver.
By bonding two different timbers together, these plates were designed to make good use of unused narrow timbers obtained from sustainable forestry activities.
Time 9:00-12:00 + 13:00-16:00, 6 hours
Content 1. Making KOITOYA original design, Chigiri plate.
What you can gain 1. Make KOITOYA original designed plate to take home
2. Hands down knowledge about jointing curved joint, using router.
3. The essence of the Butterfly joint.
4. Turning experience.
5. Hand curving for decoration.
