Manuka Oval Description

Das Manuka Oval ist ein Stadion in der australischen Hauptstadt Canberra. Es befindet sich im Stadtteil Griffith und bietet Platz für 15. 000 Zuschauer (davon 10. 000 Sitzplätze). Während des ganzen Jahres finden zahlreiche Spiele statt, schwerpunktmäßig Cricket in den Sommermonaten bzw. Australian Football in den Wintermonaten. Eine Besonderheit ist, dass der Kangaroos Football Club aus Melbourne hier jedes Jahr drei Heimspiele austrägt. Die Bauarbeiten begannen 1929 und umfassten unter anderem die Errichtung eines Zaunes und die Einebnung des Bodens. Schon zuvor war das Gelände für Rugby-League- und Australian-Football-Spiele verwendet worden. Im April fand das erste Cricket-Spiel statt. Über die Jahre wurde das Gelände zu einem vollwertigen Stadion ausgebaut. 2004 konnte das 75-Jahre-Jubiläum gefeiert werden. Jedes Jahr findet hier das traditionsreiche Cricket Match der Prime Minister’s XI statt; dabei spielt eine vom Premierminister persönlich zusammengestellte australische Auswahl gegen eine ausländische Mannschaft. 1992 wurde hier anlässlich des Cricket World Cup das One-Day International zwischen Südafrika und Simbabwe ausgetragen.

As you may know, Manuka Oval under went a complete resurfacing of its playing surface earlier this year. It is now regarded as one of the best in Australia. It has already had 3 games of AFL on this season and will host it’s inaugaural cricket Test Match, 1-5 February 2019.

Manuka Oval will host one of the most action-packed summers of cricket in history with three International matches scheduled across all three formats of the game. The summer will see Manuka Oval host its maiden test match with Australia playing sixth ranked Sri Lanka in the historic event from Friday 1 February 2019 to the following Tuesday, 5 February 2019.
In addition, we will also host the third game of the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Series v New Zealand T20I on Friday 5 October 2018. The annual Prime Ministers XI fixture, this year against South Africa, will be played on Wednesday 31 October 2018 and will return to the one-day format as a day/night fixture.
Tickets for the Men’s International matches on sale from 8 June 2018 with Women’s International matches on sale from 3 August 2018. The ticket sale date for the PM XI's is TBA.

The ACT Women's XI will play the Australian Test squad in a three-day warm-up game at Manuka Oval Canberra from this Friday. The game is scheduled for 3 days, commencing at 2:30pm each day and as some sessions will be played under lights, it will feature a pink ball.
The game is being used as a warm-up for the Southern Stars as they prepare to take on England in an Ashes Test match later in the month.

So excited to bring the kids to watch the cricket tonight and have a great feed - just like when we come for the AFL. Enjoying the cricket, but disappointing feed is an understatement. Wouldn't even feed the roast beef to my dog. Surely an international match warrants better quality food.
