Mark Johnson - Musician And Tutor

Mark Johnson is a Canberra-based musician with 15 years experience teaching experience. Currently available for lessons in piano, guitar, bass and music theory, as well as offering piano accompaniment and solo performance.

Mark has been playing piano for around twenty years. He began teaching music privately in 2005 and has lectured and tutored in music theory at the ANU School of Music since 2015. Mark holds a Bachelor of Music with Honours from the Australian National University where he studied musicology and piano and is currently completing his PhD.

Mark has played classical music professionally as a soloist and accompanist on piano, and has also toured as a contemporary keyboardist, guitarist and bass player. His musical interests span everything from Classical to contemporary genres such as progressive rock and metal.

PRIVATE INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS:

Mark offers classical or contemporary piano lessons and contemporary guitar and bass lessons, including relevant music theory for your chosen instrument. Mark meets every new student before he starts teaching them to better understand their musical interests and goals before designing a program suited to the student’s level and interests.

PRIVATE MUSIC THEORY TUITION:

Suitable for students studying music up to a university undergraduate level, music theory tuition will be tailored to help students meet the requirements of their current study. Prices are the same as for instrumental lessons and also includes free introductory consultation.


PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT:

Mark has experience providing classical piano accompaniment for solo instruments, solo singers and choirs in both public performance and exam settings (including AMEB and School of Music exams). Mark can accompany any skill level from beginners to seasoned professionals. Mark is reliable, professional and has an exceptional eye for detail, while being easy and fun to work with.


SOLO PIANO PERFORMANCE:

Mark is available for solo piano performance for functions such as weddings, concerts, gallery openings and other events or festivals. Mark can select appropriate repertoire for your event or, if you have a specific piece in mind, time permitting, he can learn it for you.
