The New Enterprise Incentive Scheme - NEIS.

Small business is often called the "engine room" of the Australian economy. It's an important option for an unemployed person seeking to achieve financial independence.

Self-employment is an option. If you are an unemployed Australian and are interested in starting and running a small business, you may be eligible to get help through NEIS.

NEIS can provide you with accredited small business training (Certificate III in Micro-enterprise Operations or Certificate IV in Small Business Management), plus business advice and mentoring for the first year your business is operating as well as income support for the first nine months.

Started in 1985, NEIS is the Australian Government’s longest running employment activity, and has helped more than 150, 000 people around Australia develop new small businesses.
