The ONDC is responsible for improving how public sector data is used and shared to: - promote greater use of public sector data- drive innovation and economic, social, and environmental benefits from greater use of public sector data- build trust with the Australian community around government's use of dataThe ONDC has been developing the Data Availability and Transparency Bill (DAT Bill) introduced to the Parliament on 9 December 2020. Once enacted, the DAT Bill will create the Data Availability and Transparency Act (DATA) scheme to help approved people and organisations to request controlled access to federal government data. The ONDC sits within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. The National Data Commissioner will be responsible for the management and oversight of the Data Availability and Transparency Act (DATA) scheme. The National Data Commissioner will regulate and oversee the DATA scheme while promoting the use and reuse of public sector data, enhancing the integrity of the public sector data system and engaging with the community to build trust about use of public sector data.
