Pegasus Riding for the Disabled of the ACT is a not-for-profit community organisation that provides therapeutic horse-facilitated programs and activities for people living with a disability in the ACT and local NSW region.
Pegasus Riding For The Disabled Of The Act Description
Pegasus is an iconic Canberra charity which exists to empower people to develop their abilities.
Established in 1973, Pegasus is located at Pegasus Farm on the outskirts of Canberra, the national capital. Around 80 people each week with a disability participate in our horse-facilitated therapy programs. Pegasus would not survive without the support it receives from the community and more than 250 volunteers.
Our sessions are offered in an integrated environment with participants placed according to their ability.
Why horseriding? Apart from being fun, horse riding helps to improve co-ordination, balance, muscle development and fitness. It also boosts confidence, self-esteem, communication skills, leadership and trust.

Thank you to one of our wonderful stable hand volunteers, Eliya, who very generously donated $500 to Pegasus to go towards our Wish List. The money was raised as part of the 'STAR' program at her school (Lyneham High). Students were asked to nominate a charity they could raise funds for through a bake sale. Eliya suggested Pegasus and the school agreed. Well done! We really appreciate the thought and the fundraising efforts of both Eliya and everyone at Lyneham High. Meet Lilah, who rides in a hippotherapy session every week. Literally Therapy on Horseback. Lilah is having so much fun , she has no idea she is working hard. She is working her core, using her muscles, improving her strength , stamina , endurance and balance. She is also communicating , practising her words and using her fine motor skills. All while having a great time with her team and her wonderful pony Lil Joe , in the beautiful winter sunshine. Good job Lilah.
