Prisoners Aid Act Description

Prisoners Aid offers support to prisoners and their visitors.
We accept that visiting a prison means time and money and at Prisoners Aid we want to help make your visit the best it can be.
In emergencies or in stressful situations we can help people to get to the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC), we can help with small amounts of money and we help prisoners and their families once the prisoner is released
However our resources are very limited, and vary from time to time. We cannot give everyone the help we would like, so we limit our help, particularly financial help, to those who are in the most need.
We are able to visit prisoners inside the AMC, even apart from the visits area. We work to encourage them to make the best use of their time, and we can raise questions with the prison officers to help the inmates achieve their best potential.
When inmates leave prison they face many challenges. We can help too. There is a service called Throughcare which will suport an inmate until they finish their parole. When that finishes, we have Aftercare and this being worked out at present.
At Prisoners Aid we aim to involve as many people as possible who can offer support without being intrusive. There are many ways to give and get help that will make the difference between going back inside or staying out.
We are there to help when the times get tough.
