BAKING SODA ➕ VINEGAR ➡️ FIRE EXTINGUISHER 🔥🚒
We mixed some baking soda and vinegar with our friends at Geoscience Australia 🌏 and poured it on a candle. 🕯️ What happened to the fire? Why did it go out? 🤔

Meet Bismuth. Element number 83. Used in everything from cosmetics for a shimmery or pearlescent appearance to fire extinguishers and fuses. It's brittle, so is often mixed with other metals to create alloys. 📷 @jacqui.may #chemistry #naturalcolour

⚗️ BAKING SODA ➕ VINEGAR ➡️ MESS❓❔⁉️🤯
We've been working with our friends at Geoscience Australia 🌏 to see things a bit differently! 👀
What do you notice when the bubbles pop? ⚪⚪⚪ What might happen if we poured it on a flame? 🔥🕯️ Tune in tomorrow to find out! 📺

What does this Dyson hair curler and the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket have in common?
Both have been carefully designed over years by a whole bunch of scientists and engineers including aerodynamicists! We like to think that both their designs are out of this world 😂!
To celebrate Design and Technology Week, DDesign and Technology Teachers' Association of Australia have a bunch of great resources and design challenges for students to help inspire their inner innovator.
... So what you waiting for? Get making!

User

Amazing place for the little minds to flourish and marvel at little science facts and phenomenon, as well as a great place to burn some energy!
The facilities are very well maintained and appear to refresh frequently.
The cafe is also surprisingly good.
I'm definitely getting the annual membership!

User

Questacon was great. It really is as good as you think it would be as a kid. The only thing I disliked was their pricing as they include individuals aged 17 as adults and charge them $23 for entry. I thought that was strange. The cafe there was outrageously priced too! I paid around $30 for a powerade, 2 cheese and tomato sandwiches and a water. Outrageous.

The actual spectacle was great. The items there are both educational and entertaining making it the perfect place to take older children and for adults to expand their knowledge and just have some fun. The staff there were extremely helpful, offering to conduct as many experiments as we wanted to see and offering help and extra information on the items there.

While the gift shop was good, some items were overpriced and for the national science and technology institution, I feel as though some items could have been of better quality or more interesting.

User

Tons of fun for the whole family! Lovely exhibits help kids (and adults) visualize scientific concepts. Staff are friendly and helpful. Gallery 5 has fun build-it-yourself type activities for kids. Gallery 6 is an indoor playground for kids under 6 with a water play area. Pity we came a little late so we missed the shows. Highly recommended! We will definitely come again if we're back in canberra!

User

Spent 5 hours here today. With lunch. Excellent for the kids! Lots of things to do, lots of learning. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Food from the cafe was really good. Just love this place. Hadn’t been here since I was a boy, so taking my own kids was nice. The Gravitram was still there!

User

A very fun place to visit, but it has lost one star for me because they got rid of the best part of Questacon, The Earthquake House! The place still has a lot of fun things inside though.
You must visit Questacon when visiting Canberra! 😉👍

User

Great place to spend a day in Canberra, especially with kids. Caters to all ages, there's something for everyone. Very accessible layout, and you can get reciprocal entry from membership in a number of other science museums around the country (the website has more info).

User

Amazing building, plenty of activities that educate kids as well as adults. It's science goes back to the past and shows the modernised technology of the future. Fun rides and interesting games intrigue children and provide the most enjoyable way to learn.
There is a souvenir shop to bring back some your experience back with you with toys and gadgets for all ages. A school trip here would be fun and helpful to kids and teachers.

User

Pleasant experience. Alot of interesting and interactive activities to do. Van easily take up 4 hours of your day. The entry price is $23 per adult, well worth it. Must visit on your Canberra trip. Tip- wear comfortable joggers/runners, plenty of walking to do.

User

BEST PLACE EVER!!!!! It's amazing. I was determined to go on the slide but when I saw it and saw some people do it I was almost freaked out. As my bus group walk to sit down see what we were doing we walk past a robot that waves at me and my friends as we sat and waiting. It was so cool. We saw lots of amazing things. On a level everyone saw lighting and it was so cool I feel like I want to see it again, it look almost like really lightning. U should bring your children there but be careful not to loose them. It's a really big place.

User

Great place. Love the free fall experience! Need one full day to properly experience the whole place without rushing.

User

As good as I remember it as a kid! Love this place!!! Spent the entire day here. Loads of participatory activities and lovely staff. Great for families or a bunch of friends. Really impressed by all the efforts that went towards relating experiments back to real life!!!

User

Love this place!! The staff was incredibly nice and helpful!! Third time here and will be back again

User

23 dollar for an adult was not really worth it to be honest. the place is more focused on children. if you do not have children, I would really consider going there.
