Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary Description

We specialise in wombat rescue and rehabilitate any injured /orphaned
/cruelty cases or illegal pet wombats. Our ultimate goal, to release them back into the bush where they belong. Please note all this work is volunteer work. This page is to educate and give people an insite into what we deal with, what wombats endure in Australia, etc. Sometimes this is good, sometimes ugly and if it is ignored, we highlight that for you too.

Wombat victims of the drought the media do not show you. Wombats of all ages and sizes, starving adults, orphans whose mothers have been shot by farmers and left, attacked wombats coming in almost daily - faces of the drought which should be shown by the media.

Getting grass in a severe drought is a BIG deal. Wombat Hot Lips once she has it, won't let you near it and has a lot to say as you can hear. Getting the wombats grass takes me 2 plus hours a day to find it and cut it. At least I can see it is greatly appreciated!

If wombat joey Tetley is awake, so must everybody else be awake! Humans included.

Wombats dream very vividly. This is wombat pinkie Kettle dreaming in her pouch.

The stronger the wind, the harder he plays - while all the other wombats are unimpressed, if wombat Paul was a weatherman, he would tell you it is great weather for a run!

Trust me, watch to the end. And who says 12 loads of wombat washing a day isn't fun? Wombat Hazel's curiosity got the better of her. http://www.sleepyburrows.com.au/wombat-co ffee-club

Another new arrival, wombat orphan General Basket. Named General initially but he is a basket case as he has been in the wrong hands for over a week and is petrified. So his nose is all you will see. Hence the name now of 'General Basket'.

Another new arrival, wombat orphaned joey Ranger.

New arrivals: Wombat orphan Tea Leaf here, plus 5 manged wombats.

The options for a winter's morning are: a) sleep in... b) bounce out of bed in zero degrees onto wet grass and into mud Pearl, Snickers and PeggyLee opting for option a.

Problem: Late at night, wombat has dug where she shouldn't have in her enclosure - need to fix asap. Solution: Bring wombat into house while enclosure is concreted and fixed in the dark by human. Result: Enclosure all fixed, locate wombat to return her to enclosure - apparently one very tired wombat and one very tired human located!

This is a good article. It asks the questions I would be asking. I have always thought that the government was trying to 'control' numbers of certain species in various ways and this certainly takes my thinking in that direction. And again, 'consequences' for people who care, yet no 'consequences' for people who kill illegally or dish out cruelty to wildlife - not going in the right direction Mr Turnbull, quite the opposite to the rest of the world in terms of protecting their unique wildlife. Or will you simply wait until these species hit critical numbers and then 'fly in and save the day' as this appears to be the way it operates. Sad.

Mange in wombats has reached catastrophic proportions. Some local wombat populations are already extinct. Sleepy Burrows is working with QUT to design and trial purpose-built quarantine hospital burrow enclosures. Please share this video widely and join our fight to save #wombats from #mange by supporting our crowdfunding campaign: http://bit.ly/saveourwombats

Wombats Crackers and Bonkers. I don't believe I need to say anymore....the couch is no longer safe it seems, or the cup of tea which I had to abandon while these two were out.
