Snowy Hydro Southcare Rescue Helicopter

About Snowy Hydro Southcare Rescue Helicopter

Snowy Hydro SouthCare began on 1 October 1998, as the primary provider of Aero-Medical and Rescue Helicopter services to people in the ACT and South-eastern NSW. Since that time, the Rescue Helicopter has completed over 4000 missions. The helicopter provides care through three main types of missions. Primary missions; where highly trained crews fly directly to the scene of an accident and transport patient(s) as quickly as possible to hospital and further care. Secondary missions; when patients are in need of urgent, specialised, medical services. The rescue helicopter transfers patients from regional areas to major hospitals that can provide the needed care. The helicopter also conducts non-medical missions including search and rescue and assisting the Bushfire Service with aerial fire-fighting, like our participation in the 2003 bush fires as well as the Sydney to Hobart Yacht races. While the helicopter is based on the Monaro Highway in Canberra, Snowy Hydro SouthCare's primary service area extends east to the coast, south to the Victorian border, and west to Hay and north almost to Sydney. As Snowy Hydro SouthCare completes nearly two missions every day of the year, it is clear that this life-saving service is an important part of our community. The Snowy Hydro SouthCare Rescue Helicopter could not exist without the generous and ongoing support from the community, our volunteers, our partner Snowy Hydro Limited, and our community sponsors.
