Simon Borg Olivier turns a lot of our “modern traditional” concepts of yoga upside-down. But it makes sooo much sense!! Breath naturally and move actively from the core. Move without force (gravity, momentum, one limb pulling on another). Don’t think, breathe, tense or stretch too much. Make sure in each movement that the fingers can move, shoulders can move, neck can move, the belly can breathe and the hips can move. We will be incorporating more and more of his approach in our classes across the board this term. This will create a way for us to feel the effects of the practice (strength, flexibility, fitness, energy flow) without causing physical and physiological stress which can easily happen when emphasizing ujjayi breath combined with uddiyana bhanda ... better to engage these aspects in a more natural way...

Term 2 classes in Nicholls kick off tomorrow, Monday 14th May. Kay has just completed Weekend 1 of Simon Borg Olivier’s Applied Anatomy & Physiology of Yoga course at Yoga Synergy in Bondi and is looking forward to sharing some of these revolutionary yet very practical techniques and fascinating insights in our classes this term (Going back for session 2 next weekend!). Love the simplicity of this detox from TTY friend Robyn Lynch in Cowra. Just 3 steps - First one: easy peasy! Second: a bit more challenging but do-able, Third one: would need to carefully select my weekdays for this one but, with a bit of commitment, definitely do-able. Ayurveda (sister science of Yoga) recommends detoxing between seasons. Right now is a great time to try this out TTY yogis & friends!

Great article for those of you who are keen to master hand stand. Including postures that will help build strength to support you lifting up into handstand and staying there. We practice them in pretty much every class (except Relax & Restore) anyway but here you have an in depth anatomical descriptions of the muscle groups required.
