Gneville has been working very hard preparing this (and lots more) DK for today's update. He has personally squished every skein and is ready to offer his colour matching services to any who ask. While I'm reasonably satisfied with his performance he's starting to get a bit uppity and even threatened industrial action if I don't agree to return his Sunday penalty rates. I created the Southern Skies collection as an homage to Canberra's skies, and Leela has taken this to the next level with the Burley scarf and Griffin hat! Two things! . Thing 1: It's the last few days of the #titsoutcollective. While I will keep dyeing (and donating) these colours beyond the deadline, the final donation totals will be counted by Countess Ablaze on Aug 1 and published soon after. DK is all gone (you amazing people!) but there's still sock yarn available. . Thing 2: I'm going away for a week from this Sunday with absolutely no internet access. It’s long overdue that I do an introduction post, and after @knittingwolfluxuryyarns and @unionfibre’s posts last week I feel a bit braver. My name is Adele and I’m the dyer behind Trichromat Yarns and this is Dave, my very tolerant partner. I am 33 and have lived in Canberra on and off for the last 15 years, but I grew up in Darwin, so I’m a Territory girl in both senses. I have degrees in engineering and physics and have mostly worked as a software engineer/data scientis...t since graduating. I started knitting in 2010 as a creative outlet from my job. Knitting for me was always about colour. The fact that it was soft, portable, practical, didn’t need much equipment or make much mess were fantastic bonuses. I discovered hand dyed yarn pretty quickly and fell in love. I dabbled in dyeing a bit here and there but it wasn’t really until last year that I started dyeing in earnest. I began by trying to replicate colourways from dyers I admired, the same way an art student does studies. I learnt a lot about colour and colour palettes by reading about (but sadly not much practicing) watercolour painting. I’ve worked on finding my own style and I’m still working on it. Late last year I took some much needed time off from work and decided to use the time to see if I could make a yarn dyeing business work. It took me about four months to go from my desk to launching my first collection of yarn in January this year. Social media has been by far the hardest part! The rest is mostly engineering, science and process in a different sense. . Other random facts about me: I am a scuba divemaster and my favourite underwater animals are cephalopods, especially octopuses. I have cerebral palsy in one leg so I’ll never be a ballerina, alas. Trichromat Yarns, Dave and I all squeeze into a one bedroom apartment. I long for a studio of my own, a garden and a dog. Dave longs for a room without yarn in it (just one).

My wonderful long weekend away has come to an end. This is my meagre haul from the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show: a beautiful skein of sock yarn from @pickleandcofibres and a ChiaoGoo circular from @fiberific. I really enjoyed meeting and chatting to so many passionate knitters, crocheters and dyers. We stayed about half an hour south of Bendigo in Harcourt in a lovely airbnb with chickens and a dog and a fire to knit by at night. Bliss. Castlemaine was a pleasant surprise filled with a vibrant creative community, and the bushwalking was full of hulking boulders and breathtaking vistas.
