Vivaldi Catering (Permanently Closed)

I've been to this restaurant a few times over the last couple of years for dinner (and a 60th birthday) and never been disappointed. But what I didn't realise until recently was that they do a fantastic job of outside catering. I recently engaged them for my parents anniversary which they wanted to host for 40 friends and family at their own home. The delightful canapés just kept coming and the staff were courteous and very well presented. The cost was very reasonable given the wide selection of hot and cold delicacies. I will certainly use them again without hesitation.

Teatro Vivaldis is one of Canberra's hidden gems. The food is excellent (my poached salmon in sweet chilli and coconut broth was absolutely superb), the atmosphere charming and the staff friendly. This is great for just lunch or dinner - but if you get a chance, combine dinner with a show and make a night of it.

It was good. Salads with entres and baked mushroom filling were very imaginitive in their tastes - a lot of work and thought had gone into preparation. Had the crocodile and scallops as entres and for mains had venison and the stuffed mushroom increased to main size. Wine list is interesting and unusually affordable with many aged reds - got a 2002 local Barton Winery Cab Sav merlot for $30. Staff were knowledgable and polite. Far better than the Canberra average. Portion sizes were generous. A good meal out. Sauce with the venison was fabulous. Negatives - lightly cooked Qld scallops were used which didn't have as much flavour as Tas style scallops (have roe) that I cook at home. There were only four scallops which contrasted with the generosity of the venison - huge amount of meat. The tempura crocodile was in a hot batter but cold inside. Crocodile by nature can be a bit tough to cut and this one was. Tricky place to find and to park.
