Young Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Women'S Leadership Project
About Young Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Women'S Leadership Project
The Young Women’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership Project is a community based project, designed, led and implemented by young local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. The young women will work together to identify a need in their community and develop a project in response. The aim of the Project is to support and nurture young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to become leaders in their community.
The Project has been developed in response to work that the YWCA of Canberra has been undertaking in the local community around women’s leadership, reconciliation and young women’s role in these endeavours.
We were able to gather a small group of young women who attended continuous workshop sessions held Tuesday afternoons, where some great ideas flowed both about leadership in general, and the direction of the community project the women wanted to be involved in.
