Sweet potato shoe string fries... Sweet potato wedges served at the Belle Central are a lovely side to your main meal, and so I was inspired to copy them but ended up doing a shoe string version. Delicious and crunchy too! To make, simply julienne the peeled sweet potatoes and lay them on a baking sheet in the oven at 180 degrees with a drizzle of olive oil and some herbs and bake till desired consistency- you can bake them till soft and squishy or till crunchy!

Chakra Puncture (CP) - what an amazing modality! Here is an awesome little film on Chakra Puncture and what it is - a very gentle needling technique that supports so many conditions and more. I love my CP session and look forwards to having them regularly to support me with my busy schedule and juggling all that I juggle in life. CP helps me come back to the body and enjoy the things in life that we sometimes forget to enjoy. And every moment matters in life. You can have CP for an ailment or a condition, but also just because you can...and this makes it even more powerful...check out the little movie...

Brilliant reminder of how to keep asking the body how it feels no matter what other people say about how we should be eating certain foods. Currently the Australian guidelines recommend 3-5 servings of fruit per day per person. But is this really applicable to most people?

"That means that there is immune activation occurring in all of us when we consume gluten, whether we think we are having issues, or not. When we understand the powerful relationship between this mechanism of immune activation and diseases like diabetes, Alzheimer’s, coronary artery disease, and even obesity, it makes opting for a gluten-free diet the clear choice if you want to do everything you can to protect your health." This confirms my grand round presentations years ago on gluten sensitivity and how so many illnesses and disease have a significant improvement in symptoms, outcomes and reduction in medicines with the simple act of removing gluten from the diet.

After way too long a silence in the recipe posting section, here comes an oldie but has got to be one of my favourites none the less: Kale chips... All you need is a bunch of kale (the frilly one is great for this recipe), some olive oil and some spices of your choice (such as garlic granules, sweet paprika, turmeric etc). Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees (alternatively you can use the grill). Meanwhile, devein the kale, shread into smaller pieces and toss in a bowl with so...me olive oil and the spices. Spread on a baking tray covered in aluminium foil or baking paper and bake for about 15-20 minutes giving the pieces a turn and toss a few times. Keep an eye on them so they do not burn. They should be nice and Krispy and crunchy and have an explosion of flavours from the spices that you sprinkled them with. Enjoy on their own or have as a side to your main meal.

There is much research that shows that lack of sleep can lead to depression (as often seen in post natal depression with the lack of sleep from caring for a young child), or lack of sleep can lead to behavioural problems, as well as poor memory and concentration, poor work performance, poor energy levels during the day, adrenal exhaustion etc. But interestingly the focus on much of this research seems to be on the hours of sleep one gets rather than the quality itself. This a...rticle highlights that if the quality is there, then the hours of sleep themselves matter less. And the fact that ‘sleep hygiene’ as they sometimes call it has been mentioned – goes to show that how we prepare for sleep in the hours before hand are crucial in supporting us with the right kind of sleep. Many people can disrespect the body’s need for sleep because they forget that there is difference between the body and the being as well as the ‘head’ – with the head we can override how tired the body is and so we keep on doing things late in the evening which then sabotages our quality of sleep as well as compromises our adrenals, energy levels, capacity to recuperate and recover etc. etc.

Not sure if you all have noticed the cooler mornings beginning here in the southern hemisphere....we are getting the first signs of autumn with the edge of crispiness before the sun comes up. So if you are anything like me, then cold breakfasts are out and warm breakfasts are in! But, here is a little trick for those who don't want to stop having the nutritious green blueberry smoothie - recently I tried heating it up and having it warm! Yes, you read correctly, heating a cold smoothie to make it warm - this makes it like a porridge. Just make sure you don't over heat it, it just needs a gentle warmth and then tastes beautiful when enjoyed with a lovely hot peppermint and liquorice tea. Enjoy your Easter!

Recently I have been travelling and hence needing to keep food preparations even more simple than I normally do. I was lucky to have access to a kitchenette with a stove top and frying pan - I was in heaven! A meal that I found easy and quick to prepare this time around was a spicy lamb mince. All you need is the following: Ingredients: 500g lamb mince, half a bunch of shallots (or 1/2 brown onion), a few garlic cloves, a chilli chopped up, olive oil, small blend of spices su...ch as turmeric, black pepper, cumin and coriander (I always travel with a small bag of spice mix), and I also happened to have access to a small bag of baby spinach leaves. Just heat the olive oil in the pan, throw in the shallots, garlic and chilli chopped, toss around for a minute before adding the lamb mince. Allow the lamb mince to brown slightly before adding the spices. Cook through and then take off the heat. Tadaa! You can serve this up in a lettuce cup with some chopped cherry tomatoes and chopped cucumbers.

GOLDEN FLAXMEAL: THE WINNER! Ground Flaxmeal has got to be one of my favourite things at the moment, and I find it great to experiment how to add it to things. I have added it to eggs (scramble them in a bowl first) and then fried it up as an egg-wrap, and I have added ground flax meal to protein pancakes to make a healthy version of pancakes for kids. But my all time favourite is adding it to my green blueberry smoothie. This is the same recipe as the Blueberrie Protein Smoothis posted earlier, but I have added 1/2 lebanese cucumber, a handful of spinach leaves and of course 1 Tbsp of Golden Flaxmeal (you can use normal Flaxmeal, I just find the Golden one particularly nice). Mmmmh - the texture is slightly grainy and it is not too sweet at all. Have fun trying this out!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK: Blueberry avocado Protein Smoothie: This is super easy and quick to whip up: All you need is 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries, 1/2 a ripe avocado, 2 Tbsp pea protein powder and a dash of filtered water (or coconut water if you prefer). Just blend all the ingredients together and enjoy as a breakfast, a snack or a not too sweet desert. Add as much water as you want to make it just the right consistency for you.

This is a 'Nice cream' recipe great for those trying out dairy free options. Simple and quick to make too...and easy video to watch and learn from. You do need a food processor to make it.
