I had a great weekend with Abyss taking the Open Water Divers course. The two days were fully packed with lots of activities and fun. We went to Cronulla on Sat and Bare Island on Sun; saw sponges, stingrays, sea urchin, seahorse, and beautiful fish.

I would like to thank my instructor Steve; experienced, encouraging, and humorous!, I can’t wish for a better teacher. The others in the Abyss team - Greer, Jordan, James - were also amazing (& they take great photos). These people didn’t just teach me diving skills, they taught me courage, passion, how to love the ocean, and to BE a diver.

Advice: rest well beforehand, study your theory beforehand, remember to enjoy the Abyss tomato soup.

I did the open water course with Abyss last week and loved it. Stephen and Greer were excellent instructors and were professional and exceedingly helpful and clearly enthusiastic about diving. It's a surprisingly big couple of days so be prepared with sunscreen and a few snacks.
Everyone at the shop was friendly and helpful and keen to help you get started in diving. Thanks to Stephen and Abyss for a great couple of days, I'll definitely be back to do future courses with them.

Magic Point
What’s the “Magic” in Magic Point? Well for me and many other divers it’s the resident grey nurse sharks. It’s probably the best spot to see them in Sydney’s south. And so much easier by boat.
The site itself is similar in topography to many of the shore dives with the added attraction of a couple of caves where you will normally find the sharks cruising around.
On either side you will often find giant cuttlefish, there has recently been a huge smooth stingray patrolling the area. At certain times of the year there are also Eastern blue devil fish showing off their amazing and vivid colours.
If the sharks are just too shy when you get there you can swim away from the caves and out into slightly deeper water, keep an eye on your deco, and there is a really varied site. Lots of kelp and sponges hiding all sorts of cool stuff. Here you will often find more giant cuttlefish. Octopus and weedy sea dragons. And many shoals of schooling fish swimming over and around you.
It’s generally a very sheltered site so the boat can tuck in and make entry and exit safe and easy, even when other nearby sites are too rough. And the skipper always drops you in the perfect spot for minimum swimming and maximum viewing.
It is suitable for all levels of divers. SO what are you waiting for? Book an Abyss boat dive today!

Customer service at Abyss goes above & beyond! Sam & Grier went out of their way to find the correct scuba mask with corrective lenses for me. When the most suitable option for my needs was not a brand they can stock, they contacted their competitor to ensure that they could help me!
Support this amazing business and their wonderful team!

I had the greatest experience getting my open water certification with Abyss. Paul and Chris were the ones leading us on our dive training and I have so much gratitude for their utmost patience with me (I did have a bit of a freak out) but it went so well and smoothly. And by the time we did that last dive, I finally felt comfortable and found my feet(or fins). Now onwards to make it a life long hobby. Very grateful to both Paul and Chris for their support, encouragement and help in all aspects. I would highly recommend Abyss to learn how to scuba! Definitely has changed how I’ll be viewing my world. Thank you guys!!!

I could talk about how good Abyss courses are, how the instructors are amazing, talented and friendly ( which is all very true ), but I also want to thank Abyss for their customer support.

I recently had some issues trying to get a replacement certification card (my own problem nothing to do with Abyss) I rang Abyss and dealt with Andi Payne, she was a delight to deal with, profession courteous and ever so helpful. Not only did she discover the cause of my problem ( 2 separate profiles ), but she contacted PADI to get them merged, arranged a new certification card and got my address details updated. She did all of this without me even asking her to do so. There was no “sales” incentive for her to be so diligent, just good old fashioned customer service.

Friendly community focused support is the corner stone of the Abyss ethic, I heartily recommend this dive centre to those thinking about experiencing diving and veterans alike. Keep being fabulous !!

Thank you verily Andi (and Abyss as a whole), for making my pastime feel more like a community.

I'm staying in Sydney just for a month and I could able to have two course here with Abyss Scuba Diving. My mother language is Farsi and I'm not perfect at English, but still Abyss really helped me with registration & my instructor Jarrad was flexible with me for learning and repeating again. He was very considerate (give same attention to all the learners!) He made lots of jokes to keep us relaxed and out of nervous! If you have time, I really suggest it with Abyss (Cool staff, Good Gears)!

I had the best experience completing my Open Water Diving Certificate. My instructor - Chris - was fantastic! I struggled with some of the skills we had to complete but Chris remained super calm and helped me through the entire process to be able to pass the course. I highly recommend Abyss Scuba Diving in Ramsgate for anyone wanting to get involved with scuba diving for the first time or completing another course. I will certainly be back to complete my Advanced Open Water Diving course soon.

I enjoyed the Whale Watch and Dive trip with Abyss on a Saturday in early October. The booking process through the website was easy, and confirmation of a place came through quickly. The explanatory notes arrived by email nearer the date with clear directions and preparation required. The weather on the day was a bit ordinary, but they sent regular text messages to confirm arrangements. The meeting place at the boat ramp was efficient and we got underway on a comfortable and functional boat with protection from the sun. We had seven paying customers with two guides (Sam and Steve) and a boat driver (Martin). The safety and orientation briefings were friendly and comprehensive for each of the boat, trip and dive. You go out of Botany Bay wearing wetsuits for the dive, and they provide additional warm weather gear if necessary. Although the weather was a bit rough on the day about 2-3km offshore, we managed to see whales migrating south, and enjoyed cheese and biscuits (even the ones I managed to drop from the container) in the process. The second part of the trip is a single dive off Kurnell. This was an easy boat dive drifting on a light current to about 20m with Sam and Steve providing great support, guiding, and pointing out lots of critters. Martin picked us up in the boat which saved the turn-around. A cup of hot soup and bread rolls in a calm cove hit the spot as we recounted the events of the dive. Overall, with Abyss they work hard to make the experience, and I have confidence in their staff. Thanks to Sam, Steve and Martin.

The course is very thorough and informative. I felt anxious about some of the skills that we would be required to do after doing the online readings. I found that I could accomplish all of the necessary tasks easily with the great instruction from the dive instructors. They facilitate a great, fun learning environment where teaching proper diving technique is strongly informed in a manner that allows for success. The dives were very enjoyable, we saw tons of great fish that made it all worth it!

First time scuba diving and the experience was super cool! :) It was amazing to see the underwater world - a totally different perspective. Staff were very knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. Our instructor, Jarrad, was very experienced, enthusiastic and always willing to explain a skill in further detail. Thanks to all the staff at Abyss for the great experience.

Just completed the Open Water course as a referral from the USA. We had Jarrod as our instructor as well as Tamara who was certifying another group with us. Both of them were simply awesome! Knowledgeable, high energy, and most importantly friendly. They even provided toothpaste treatment for my mask that I had purchased in the States and not from their shop...talk about taking care of the customer! HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend! A+++++

I did the Open water diver course and it was an absolute blast. The instructors are both enthusiastic and well trained, we had Honeron as our instructor and you could tell he loves what he does. The places we went were great, with plenty of things to see. The rest of the crew that works at abyss were friendly and helpful if we had any questions and we never felt forced to buy anything that we didn't really need. Ended up joining the dive shop at the end of the course and will definitely be back to go diving with them again.

Had the absolute pleasure of diving with Abyss during my recent Advanced Open Water Course. Jarrad the lead Instructor was obviously a very experienced diver and instructor. He was incredibly patient with me when I seemed to have an apparent never ending issue with equipment (mostly user error!). Steve was a terrific 2nd instructor - ready to provide any advice and contribute to the instruction. Abyss is a very professional outfit. All staff were incredibly helpful and obvious dive lovers. The other participants on the course were brilliant. Everyone was keen to share a story and offer support. Whilst I had a few challenges - I still loved the course and am thankful it was successful. I’m looking forward to becoming an Abyss member and exploring the sites of Sydney and beyond.

User

Great professional set up, many members of staff available for help and advice , trainers with years of experience, reassurance that you are in safe hands. I struggled with becoming used to the underwater environment but was supported through and completed my training. Now I'm confident to continue diving and have already returned for additional dives.

User

I completed by PADI open water certification here on the weekend. I had never scuba dived before and was excited but nervous. Jarrod was my instructor and was very experienced and helpful and made learning very enjoyable. I loved it so much that I've already scheduled my advanced course!

User

I did the Advanced Open Water course here. Great instructor, Jarred. Streamlined processes from start to finish. Never had to ask for anything. All is provided from pens to lunch and snacks. Dive briefs are concise and informative. Very good business, I will do any future courses here!

Cody was an excellent instructor. He was engaging, calm under pressure, patient and thorough in teaching students. What a great asset he is to your organisation. We will definitely go back to Abyss based on this. Also, we were really happy that the general mood between staff and students was relaxed but professional. We really felt like we had a great weekend even though there was so much to learn. As such, we always felt safe but had a lot of fun in the process.

Overall, we were very happy with our first diving class and will be back for more in the future.
