About Act For Peace

Working together to confront injustice and support communities impacted by conflict and natural disaster.

Act For Peace Description

Today, there are more refugees, asylum seekers and displaced people worldwide than at any time since World War II. That’s more than 70. 8 million people forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and disaster. They are the world’s most vulnerable people; mothers and fathers struggling to feed their children; sons and daughters missing out on an education; people dying for want of basic medical care that we take for granted in Australia; and families who, after losing everything, are not getting the support they deserve to rebuild their lives.

It’s a terrible injustice. And one that we can, and must, overcome.

We believe that when people all over the world work together, big changes really are possible. We’re passionate about building a better world. And that’s why we’ve made it our mission to act in partnership with other passionate people, like you, across the globe to achieve safety, justice and dignity in communities threatened by conflict and natural disaster. We don’t think there is any task more important.

Through your support of Act for Peace, you are part of a network of more than 140 organisations across 130 countries – the ACT Alliance. It’s a global grassroots coalition for action. Together we’re working to confront injustice and create positive, sustainable change in communities threatened by conflict and natural disaster. By working together we can share knowledge, resources, speak with a louder voice and, ultimately, achieve more impact.

Thank you for joining us.

Desperate people do desperate things. As a compassionate nation, we should be working with Indonesia and other countries in the region to make sure every person fleeing violence and oppression has their basic right to safety, employment and a decent standard of living fulfilled.

BREAKING: Scott Morrison is PM. Now more than ever, we need to stand up for the values of our country. In the absence of strong leadership, we must ourselves stand against cruelty and fear. Australia can choose to turn inwards - or we can come together for compassion, fairness and humanity. Take the pledge: bit.ly/stand-against-fear

Every mother wants to keep her children healthy, happy and safe. Your support is working to provide mums in refugee camps with the food, medical care and support they need to care for themselves and their family. Thank you!

For the Syrian men, women and children who’ve lost everything, your heartfelt message of solidarity show them that they’re not alone. Watch the video and share.

“I want my kids to know that it's OK to be compassionate, and do with less so others can have more.” ❤️🌏 ---- Derek is one of thousands of passionate people in Australia who took the Ration Challenge this year. As an Australian, he wants to show refugees that he’s with them. As a father, he wants to teach his kids a life-changing lesson.

We asked refugees ‘What will the war never take from you?’. Their answers will lift you up.
Behind every negative article about “the refugee crisis” is someone’s story; someone who is resilient; someone who would do anything to keep their family safe; someone who still has hope for the future.

“We started with a small group of mothers in Sydney which grew and grew… we are game changers and we do amazing things – we get political and we rise and take on challenge.” ___
We're so inspired by Dulce, and all the other Mums 4 Refugees across the country, committed to supporting refugees and asylum seekers. Dulce's story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we act with compassion and work together for change. 🌏👊

“When we were in Syria before the war, my grandpa bought me this beautiful jacket. He's passed away now. I really love it. I used to wear it all the time whenever I went out in winter. This year it felt very small, so I gave it to my sister.” Aida, 10, lives in a refugee camp on the outskirts of Amman, Jordan.

Who needs smashed avo when you've got all that rice?!
It's been more than two weeks since the challenge. While most of us still can't look at rice, it's worth it to know that the money we raised together is helping to provide food rations, medical care and support for families in need around the world.

You made a huge difference - so what's next after the Ration Challenge?
We're inviting you to be a part of something special, something we've never done before...

Misguided. Getting people to walk around saying "refugees are scum"? How is that different to the far-right? You might think it was an edgy social experiment but it is still in fact inciting hatred.
