Action On Poverty

We are an international aid organisation that helps vulnerable communities in Africa, Asia and the Pacific find their own long-term solutions to poverty.

Action on Poverty is a secular, not-for-profit non-government organisation (NGO), founded in Australia in 1968.

We work in partnership with some of the world's poorest communities to help people lift themselves out of poverty.

Our mission is to empower local changemakers to break the cycle of poverty in their communities. We support programs in Africa, Asia and the Pacfic.


Working in partnership with others is a key feature of our work. Our approach to development is twofold and focuses on:

Strengthening and empowering local NGOs and community groups in developing countries so that they can better meet their own aspirations; and

Supporting Australian groups through our Action on Poverty Partnership Program to provide innovative opportunities and professional support to Australians who want to become directly involved in supporting sustainable international development programs.

Action on Poverty is a membership organisation and members are encouraged to volunteer their services by providing technical expertise, assistance with project implementation and fundraising.

Action on Poverty holds full accreditation with DFAT and is a signatory to the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) Code of Conduct which requires high standards of corporate governance, public accountability and financial management to be in place.
