Alpine Inn Khancoban

About Alpine Inn Khancoban

The Alpine Inn is located in the township of Khancoban. It is the gateway to the Kosciuszko National Park and Australia's High Country.

Alpine Inn Khancoban Description

Khancoban was a purpose built town to house the many workers of the Snowy Hydro Scheme.
There are 2 power plants located a short distance from Khancoban, Murray 1 and Murray 2.
The hotel was also purpose built. On the grounds of the hotel is what used to be the pay office for the workers, meaning on pay day the Snowy Hydro Authority basically recouped the money paid to it's employee's through the hotel! !
About 50k north of Khancoban, in the Kosciuszko National Park is Tom Groggin Station, which is famous for Banjo Patersons poem "The Man From Snowy River". Banjo penned the poem after meeting Jack Riley (the station manager) and listeneing to his story of chasing a colt down treacherous mountains in the area.
Khancoban now has many events and attractions, there are also walks and lookouts in the national park as well as fishing and rafting on the Murray River.
