The Armidale Aboriginal Culture Centre & Keeping place will be celebrating its 30th year anniversary on the 17th November 2018. One of the Exhibitions will be on families from the Aboriginal community. Would anyone be interested in sending in a photo of their family to display in the exhibition? If so, could you drop them at the centre and we will make a copy. You can also email your photos to me at hvale867@gmail.com The centre will also have Aboriginal markets during the celebrations. If any of you are interested in selling items, art or crafts please let me know so that I can book a free stall for you. Kind Regards Hazel Vale

We had a lovely exhibition opening today. Lots of people attended it. Nice pumpkin soup and bread rolls to fill our bellies. Extraordinary artwork, artefact and traditional Aboriginal boundary maps.

The Aboriginal Cultural Centre & Keeping Place presents 4 new exhibitions on the 26th July at 12.00 pm. The first is an exhibition entitled Border Stories by Jai Walker, Tania Walker and Noel Caldwell. The second in the local Artist’s Boutique is entitled Borderlines by Tyler Stackman. The third is a photographic exhibition entitled Boundary Maps. The final exhibition is entitled Cross Border Artefacts. Border Stories are a collection of artworks from three exceptional artis...ts from Casino, NSW. Jai Walker is a Bundjalung artist who is inspired by his family, friends and culture. Noel Kenneth Caldwell, also known as Charlie, lives and paints in Casino. Charlie has been painting since he was 15 and draws his inspiration from his Aboriginal heritage. Tania Walker comes from the Bundjalung nation. She developed her own unique style by combining contemporary and traditional methods to create her works which include bold colours and images of bush food, native animals and dots. The second exhibition is entitled Borderlines by Tyler Stackman. Tyler is a young Dunghutti man who skilfully combines traditional dots with the fine technique of cross hatching. Tyler also adds other traditional designs such as handprints to indicate the traditional Aboriginal men’s role in hunting native animals. These skills are displayed in this exhibition.
The photographic exhibition is entitled Boundary Maps. This exhibition will include four maps combined together to create a picture of Australia and the various Indigenous tribal nation groups. These maps were published in 1974 and were drawn up by anthropologist Norman B. Tindale. The drawings illustrate Tindale’s interpretation of Aboriginal Australia. All his original research is held at the South Australian Museum. Cross Border Artefacts are artefacts from the Tingha Collection and were used by Australian Aboriginals across NSW. The exhibit consists of 19 artefacts from 12 towns around the state. The towns include Wellington, Sandy Beach, Moree, Armidale and Orange. There are also artefacts on display that originate from Gularganbone, Gilgandra, Bourke, Kempsey, Barraba, Eugowie and the Hunter Valley regions.
The exhibitions will be on display until the 24th September. The public is welcome to come and view the exhibitions.

Happy NAIDOC week everyone. The Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place had a great NAIDOC flag raising ceremony. The theme for 2018 NAIDOC is 'Because of Her We Can.' Our Chairperson, Rose Lovelock was joined by two lovely young Aboriginal girls Jaslyn Holten and Tyleka Levy-Cutmore to raise the flag. Frank Roberts did the acknowledgement to Country while Bevan Quinlin played the didgeridoo. Our guest speaker was Jamie Lovelock who gave a very inspiring talk about his mother.

The Director attended an Aboriginal Women's lunch organised by Hazel Vale to celebrate NAIDOC week. Many strong Aboriginal women attended the function.

Message from the Director, Dr Daisy William.
As you are probably already aware, our Creative Producer, Bevan Quinlin has been selected to join this year’s Rotary Group Study Exchange. This is a very good Professional Development program where they organise for a team to go to Denmark for a month to learn more about their own vocation. The Danish Rotarians will arrange vocational visits for them over there.
The Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place will be sponsoring B...evan. We have requested that the Danish Rotarians organise visits to galleries, museums, photography groups, visitor centres and schools for Bevan to achieve a list of outcomes. This trip will cost the ACCKP about $5,500 which includes his airfare, Bevan’s incidentals while away and the replacement staff. This does not include Bevan’s salary while he is away. We have the funds in our budget for his salary.
We are raising funds for these additional expenses and have set up a sub account in our bank where people can deposit funds to help the Centre. Our Bank details are below. Name: Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place or ACCKP BSB: 932 000 A/c number: 630924 Sub account: S3.9 Reference: “your name”
The ACCKP has Deductable Gift Recipient status for tax purposes. Please see below the Australian Tax Office’s comments on making donations to organisations with DGR status. “Organisations that are entitled to receive tax deductible gifts are called 'deductible gift recipients' (DGRs). You can only claim a tax deduction for gifts or donations to organisations that have a DGR. Deductions for gifts are claimed by the person that makes the gift (the donor). To claim a tax deduction for a gift, it must meet four conditions: • The gift must be made to a DGR. Check whether your donation was made to an endorsed DGR at ABN Look-up: Deductible gift recipientsExternal Link. • The gift must truly be a gift. A gift is voluntary transfer of money or property where you receive no material benefit or advantage. • The gift must be money or property, which includes financial assets such as shares. • The gift must comply with any relevant gift conditions. For some DGRs, the income tax law adds extra conditions affecting types of deductible gifts they can receive.”
If you have any questions, please feel free to write to me at
Thank you in advance for your contribution.
Best wishes Daisy

Rotary has a very good Professional Development program called Rotary Group Study Exchange where they organise for a team to go to 🇩🇰 Denmark for a month to learn more about their own vocation. The Danish Rotarians will arrange vocational visits for them over there.
The Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place will be sponsoring our Creative Producer to be part of this group. It's a great way for young people between the ages of 25 and 40, to see how their vocation is ...practiced in another country!
🇦🇺 the photo attached shows from left: Scarlett Whalen, Kristy Curry, DGE Lorraine Coffey, Team Leader Elaine Walsh, Bevan Quinlin (with Didgeridoo) and David Archer. The team will leave late August.
A big congratulations to our very own Bevan Quinlin!
