OPTIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AFTER GRADUATION
👣 Planning on next-steps after graduation? Below are some options available
1. Take on further studies... Continue studying will help international students lengthen their stay in Australia. For undergraduate students, they can choose to pursue either graduate diploma or master degree to gain higher level of qualifications and skills needed to get a job
2. Apply for a temporary visa Temporary Graduate visa allows international students who have completed at least 2 years studying in Australia. This visa has two streams: - Graduate Work stream – A visa in this stream is granted for 18 months if the students have the skills and qualification related to a job on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). - Post Study Work Stream, which allows the students to stay in Australia for from 2 to 4 years, depending on the qualifications, regardless of their field of study.
3. Apply for a working visa Given that the current employer is able and willing to sponsor them, and their occupations are on either the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) or the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). With this visa, applicants are able to live and work in Australia as long as they work for their sponsoring employer.
4. Applying for working holiday: People aged between 18 and 30 from approved countries are able to apply for a 'Working Holiday visa (subclass 417)' or a 'Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462)' visa, which will allow them to travel and work for up to 12 months.
5. Gain professional work experience: Engineering, accounting and computer science graduates have the option to undertake a Professional Year Program, which is design to help them gain industry-specific skills through formal learning and workplace experience. Those who take on this program is also granted 5 points to qualify for a Skilled Migrant visa.
6. Apply for Permanent Residence via Skilled Migration if the student has an occupation on the MLTSSL. Qualification depends on the results of a points test.

WHO ARE AFFECTED BY CHANGES IN AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENTS?
New Australian Citizenship requirements came into effect on 20th April 2017. Citizenship applicants are required to show they have been in Australia for the last four years on any temporary or permanent visa, with a maximum of 12 months oversea.
If applicants are on permanent visa, they are required to be present in Australia for at least 12 months, with a maximum 3 months oversea.
... Commonly, ahead of applying for permanent residence, people will spend an amount of time on temporary visas, which include: 1. International students who are completing studies in Australia and applying for General Skilled Migration; 2. 457 visa holders who are applying for permanent residence through the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) 3. Partner visa applicants who first obtain a temporary partner visa, then qualify for a permanent partner visa 2 years after lodging their initial partner visa application.
For now, the legislation to bring the changes into effect has not been passed by the Parliament until the end of 2017. Until then, applicants still have the option to apply for citizenship as long as they meet the requirements for Australian citizenship.

With changes in 457 Visa, a more secured option would be The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) Visa. This is a Permanent Resident visa for skilled workers who have been nominated by an approved Australian employer and want to work in regional Australia.
This visa involves a three-step process, firstly, approval from Regional Certifying Body (RCB), secondly, nomination by an approved Australian employer and then finally visa application under the nominated stream. If ...the visa application is lodged after receiving an approved nomination, it should be done within six months of the nomination being approved.
★What this visa lets you do? This is a permanent residence visa. It lets the visa holder and any family members who have also been granted this visa to: 🔸 stay in Australia indefinitely 🔸 work and study in Australia 🔸 enrol in Medicare, Australia's scheme for health-related care and expenses 🔸 apply for Australian citizenship (if eligible) 🔸 sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence 🔸 travel to and from Australia for five years from the date the visa is granted
★What are the obligations as a visa holder? The visa holder has to begin employment with the nominating employer within six months of: 🔸 first entry to Australia if she/he was granted this visa while residing outside of Australia; or 🔸 the visa being granted if she/he was granted this visa while residing in Australia.
The visa holder also needs to live in the regional area and remain in the position for the full two years. DIBP may cancel this visa if the visa holder fails to do so.

The Australian Government is strengthening the requirements to become an Australian citizen:
• Increasing the general residence requirement: Applicants will require to demonstrate minimum 4 years of stay in Permanent Residence with maximum of 12 months of outside of Australia during this period.
• Introducing an English language test: Applicants required to achieve the minimum of competent level (Equivalent to IELTS 6 band each) in English test
... • Strengthening the Australian Values Statement: In application forms for visas and citizenship to include reference to allegiance to Australia and require applicants to make an undertaking to integrate into and contribute to the Australian community.
• Strengthening the test for Australian citizenship: The current test will be strengthened to test an aspiring citizen’s understanding of core Australian Values.
• Demonstrate their integration into the Australian community: Applicants will need to demonstrate their integration into the Australian community by providing, for example, documentation to the effect that people who can work are working, or are actively looking for work or seeking to educate themselves; that people are contributing to the community by being actively involved in community or voluntary organisations; that people are properly paying their taxes and ensuring their children are being educated. Applicants’ criminal records and adherence to social security laws are also relevant.

457 VISA CHANGES: Australian Immigration Centre has highlighted the major changes in 457 visa and occupation list. 1. Current visa subclass 457 will be replaced by two temporary skilled worker visa, Short term and medium term program 2. The short-term visa program will have an optional two years extension available before a visa holder must leave the country to apply again 3. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN IELTS AND PTE
For Australian immigration purpose, many applicants have to take English test as part of their application. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and The Pearson Test of English PTE are the most popular tests. Before deciding which one is right and appropriate for you, let's find out how different they are from each other.
Apart from different historical backgrounds, in which IELTS started coming around in 1989 and PTE was... launched in 2009, these two also have different structures and test contents.
An IELTS comprises four part: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing, and is completely paper-based. In IELTS, the examinee's speaking abilities are tested via a live conversation, which is recorded in the examiner's recording device. The IELTS Test Report Form is posted in 13 calendar days after the test.
Similarly, PTE also consists of the four parts above. However, the test is 100% computer-based. Due to that, many innovative techniques will be used to test the examinee's writing abilities. For Speaking, there will be no live conversation, instead, the examinee has to speak into a microphone to be recorded by the computer itself. The PTE Academic scores are available online within five business days.
