Australian Scooter Association

The Australian Scooter Association was formed to help organize the Sport of Scooter in Australia and to ensure there is a strong link between what is happening here in Australia and globally in Scooter through the International Scooter Association (ISA). Why create the Australian Scooter Association? 1. The industry itself specifically the vendors have been funding the phenomenal growth in the sport through sponsoring and supporting riders - this cannot continue! The determining factor that a rider can enter a competition whether it is the Australian or International Championships should not be whether or not a sponsor is paying for the trip. 2. Scooter has developed in Australia over the last 5 years as a valid sport, however it is not recognised as a 'Sport' in the context of the Australian Government Recognised Sporting Framework - this must change if the sport is to continue to grow and prosper. With formal Government recognition of Scooter as a Sport comes structural and financial support. So the very specific agenda for the ASA will is: " Ensure Scooter is recognised as a valid sport in the context of the Australian Sporting Framework " To do this will require; • Industry, rider and parent recognition that the ASA is the preeminent body representing Scooter as a Sport within Australia • A strong affiliation and partnership with the ISA • Structuring the sport into a 3 Tier hierarchy; • 1. National - National Sporting Organisation (NSO) 2. State - State Based Sporting Organisation (SSO) 3. Local - Local Clubs (LCs) • Developing a Formal Scooter National Membership • Regular Competition at a Club Level, State and National • World Championships in Australia 2014 • Demonstration that Scooter has been a valid sport for at least 3 years Develop Scooter as a valid Sport in the Australian Sporting framework
