Balgowlah Community Garden Description
Located at 100 Griffiths Street, Balgowlah, the garden is a joint initiative between Cancer Council NSW, Manly Council and the residents of Balgowlah, NSW. The garden is run by a volunteer management committee who first came together in July 2010 to see this vacant plot become a vibrant community space.
The Balgowlah Community Garden (BCG) is a space for local residents to plant and harvest their own fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs. The garden is a combination of leased plots and communal beds where members can particpate in gardening activities and share in the produce.
Eating a healthy diet, being physically active and maintaining a healthy body weight can all reduce your risk of a number of different cancers and other chronic diseases. The guiding principles of the BCG are to increase the consumption of fruit and vegetables in the community and provide a fun and educational space for the local community to gather, share experience and knowledge and be physically active.
