Our resident green-thumbs in the Garden Club have been hard at work making a delicious dip using their home grown beetroot. Quote from Zac: "I didn't even like beetroot before I tasted this dip!" Many others tried beetroot for the first time too and everybody loved it! Have a go at making your own Beetroot Dip with this lovely recipe supplied by Chief Green-thumb, Karen Oxland. ** In a food processor, mix: 1-2 Cups of washed and peeled fresh beetroot, 1 clove of garlic, 2 tab...lespoons of tahini, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, a handful or two of fresh coriander, squeeze in the juice of 1/2 a lemon and a pinch of salt. ** Serve with crackers or pop it in your sandwich!

Talent Quest 2018 Special School Assembly: Friday 14th September, 2.15pm. All welcome
Ballina Public School is full of talented kids, and over the past two weeks the Talent Quest judges were able to witness this first hand. The best acts were chosen to perform in our Artist Showcase this Friday.

Last Friday (August 31) students from Ballina Public School represented Ballina in the Zone athletics titles.
Students competed against the best primary school athletic talent from the Tweed heads, Murwillumbah and Ballina/Byron areas.
All of our athletes performed exceptionally well:... Savannah (5/6T) came 1st in shot put and discuss, 2nd in the 100m sprint and 3rd in the 200m sprint. Phoenix (5/6T) came 3rd in the long jump. Declan (5/6H) came 5th in the discuss. Alliera (3/4PM) came 2nd in discuss and competed in the 200m and 800m. Aelawan (5/6H) competed in the discuss. Ciara (5/6T) competed in the discuss and shot put. Affrica (5/6H) competed in the discuss.
Congratulations guys for representing Ballina Public School with distinction.

Fete Committee – WE NEED YOU! Our committee met last month and there has been good interest so far! Make sure that you get along to the next Fete meeting, tomorrow! – Tuesday 4th September at the Westower Tavern, West Ballina from 5:30pm. Let’s get this going so our kids have an event to remember!

As a part of the Premiers sporting challenge, the school had a visit from Ash Taylor. The Australian Hockey Goal Keeper, he spoke to the students about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and setting goals for yourself.

A reminder to everyone that our famous Book Character Parade is on this Wednesday at 10am in the School Hall. Everyone is welcome. After the parade we will be holding a Barbecue to raise funds for the Stage 3 excursion. $2.00 will get you a lovely sausage sandwich. Come down for the parade, stay for lunch and help Stage 3 raise money for their excursion. Everyone's a winner!!

Certificate in Bundjalung Languages
Ballina Public School will be hosting TAFE NSW this Thursday, 23rd and Friday, 24th August.
The purpose of their visit is to take enrolments for the newly developed Certificate I in Fundamental Aboriginal Languages for Personal Use.
... Members of our Aboriginal community are encouraged to attend on these 2 days and enrol in what is a highly recommended program.
NSW TAFE will be in the Bugal Galii room from 9am-4pm Thursday and 9am-12pm Friday.

Last week was National Science Week. The theme was 'Game Changes and Change Makers'. In Stage 2 Science we are looking at 'Change Makers' as we look into the reproductive system of flowers and how pollinators help with this fascinating system. Here are a few pictures of 3/4S dissecting flowers to locate the male and female parts of a Lilly. As Heidi in 3/4PM said, 'I never knew so much happened in a flower! I don't look at them in the same way anymore.'... Thanks very much Ms Thwaites!!

Fete Committee Meeting. 5.30pm today at Cherry Street Bowling Club. Our committee is meeting this afternoon at the Cherry Street Sports Club. We desperately need 10 more volunteers to make this fun and memorable special event happen for our kids! Please come along to the meeting – many hands will make light work and we can make great memories for all of our kids.
