Barrier Police District Description

Barrier Local Area Command encompasses a diverse community from the strong mining links in Broken Hill, Silverton and Tibooburra to the National Parks, agricultural and wool industry in and around Ivanhoe and along the riverlands of Menindee, Wilcannia, Wentworth and Dareton.

Today along with mining, art and tourism are becoming the premier growth industries of the area. Broken Hill is a friendly town with historical significance. It is the birthplace of Australian trade unionism with the signing of the 8-hour day taking place here. The Broken Hill Station is the only 24-hour Station within the Command.

The Barrier LAC covers approximately 234, 000 square km and borders on Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. We have a strong integral working relationship with the Community, along with Local and State Government Agencies which pivotal is to our success. Policing in the Barrier Local Area Command is similar to that of any other town or city in NSW.
