Already had one skin cancer? Half of people diagnosed with a Basal Cell Skin Cancer will develop another one within 3 years. Regular skin checks are a must.
MYTH - "I'm low risk for skin cancer - I work indoors". Basal Cell Skin Cancers often arise in people who aren't usually exposed to the sun, then have high intensity exposure eg: weekends or holidays.
"The Winter Blues" is a recognised phenomenon. Look after yourself. Get some sunshine and fresh air - especially on beautiful days like today. Do something active every day. And talk to someone if you are feeling down.

Phones have been unexpectedly down this morning. All back up and running now ready for our next clinic day Monday.
Dread your 2 yearly Pap smear? Well the good news is that the new cervical screening program testing for the HPV virus reduces the frequency of testing to 5 years. Women need to have the first of these new tests 2 years after their last Pap smear. Don’t delay. Cervical screening saves lives.
Flu season is upon us. Flu vaccination is provided at no cost for children 6 months to 5 years this year. We have plenty in stock.
Busting the myth. There is no evidence that nanoparticles in sunscreens cause cancer. Harmful UV radiation, however, does. Protect your skin. https://www.cancerwa.asn.au/…/cancer… /sunscreen-cancer-myth/
An interesting statistic. STI screening recommended every year for people under 30 https://www.smh.com.au/…/1000-revellers -at-splendour-in-the…
Getting enough Vit D? – Osteoporosis, or thin bones and fractures, can results from a lack of Vitamin D, especially in the winter months. Tips: • Take a balanced approach to sun exposure • Get 1-2 hours of sunlight in the midday winter sun per day on face/hands and arms. • In warmer months, cover up with sunscreen, clothing and a hat. Sunscreen use does not contribute significantly to Vitamin D deficiency • Never use a solarium... • Exercise daily • If you don’t spend a lot of time outdoors, think about getting your Vitamin D levels checked • Eat enough calcium – dairy, leafy veges, fish, tofu, nuts such as almonds • Food sources of vitamin D – eggs, liver, salmon. https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/…/1 0-tips-for-getting-e…

Seborrhoeic keratoses are brown or skin coloured benign growths that people get more of as they age. Patients often come in concerned about these skin spots but they are not harmful. They feel almost “stuck on” and can have a waxy surface. However as with any new skin lesion, especially a darkly coloured one, if in doubt, get it checked out!
A recent study in the UK found that seeing the same doctor regularly for your health care may lead to a lower death rate! https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles /322313.php
Thanks for everyone for their support of our new clinic! The first few weeks have been fantastic. Just to let you all know that we will be closed until lunchtime Wednesday 4th July but will be checking the phones daily. From Monday 9th July we will be open 4 days per week Monday to Thursday 830am - 5pm. Bookings can be made online at bay doctors
Calling all hairdressers, beauticians, massage therapists, make-up artists and anyone else who regularly sees alot of skin! You are at the front-line of skin cancer detection and often are the ones who will bring a suspicious lesion to someone's attention. Don't be afraid to speak up; better safe than sorry.
Flu vaccinations are provided by the government for all kids 6 months to 5 years this winter. Children, especially under 3’s were found last year to get the worst cases of the flu, and 2 deaths were reported. Think about booking for a discussion about your children’s vaccination.
Basal cell skin cancer is very common. The typical BCC has a raised pearly appearance and a scab in the centre which can bleed, however it can also be a flat pink patch. Check your skin for not only dark lesions that stand out or have changed, but unusual pink lesions or sores that won't heal.
Appointment available this afternoon
Did you know that the government subsidises health checks for certain people at risk of chronic disease? If you are aged between 40-49 and at risk of diabetes, between 45-49, over 75, of Aboriginal heritage, have an intellectual disability, are a refugee or a former member of the Australian Defence Force, you may be eligible.
