The Earl of Southampton, Shakespeare's benefactor and friend is buried in a magnificent marble tomb in the Norman /Saxon village church where Martin was a choir boy and bell ringer for many years in his youth. The Earl lived in Titchfield at "Place House" the original 11th century Cistercian monastery.
