Belgian Beer Cafe Heritage

In search of "The Best Bucket of Mussels" in Sydney our group of 4 followed the many foodie sites pointing to BBC. Sadly, it seems that either they are self generated or we just went on a bad day. Half of the mussels weren't bearded (the hair on the lips is removed) which detracted from the average marinate sauce. Waiter was self-important. Good location though :)

Beautiful looking pub. Food is good as are the beers on offer. Food came out very fast, the staff were very good all round.

I really enjoyed the place even though it was pretty crowded, the atmosphere is nice.
The food was good and well presented.
We had to order at the counter, maybe because it was busy.
There restaurant was a little expensive but its reasonable for the area.

I was craving for that Brussels moment I had 7 years ago in Belgium - and that's about BEER and MUSSELS! I did some local research and this cafe is on the top list. I went there last Wednesday with a friend after my work. Surprisingly they have a special discount on Wednesday on Mussels and we came a bit early like 5.30 pm in time for their happy hour. I can conclude that this is definitely a SPOT ON for my craving about Brussels! It transported me to that feeling of enjoying one enormous pot of Mussels and a cold Belgian beer! My only mistake is, I ordered Black Beer Leffe because of my craving. I should've been faithful to their suggestion. Other than that this is really a SPOT ON! A Brussels in Sydney :)

Heritage place with high ceilings and brick walls. An amazing range of Belgian beers (though all were not available) and variety of mains options. The food was good, the service nor bad.

The sirloin steak was perfectly cooked to my taste (rare) and really tasty with the creamy pepper sauce.
My wife had the traditional moules and she was very pleased. Great child friendly atmosphere with many large tables for six or more.

I like the decorations inside, even though the underground bricks seem a bit frightening to me. However, the light is not very suitable for taking photos. The mussels are fresh and well cooked, and they are available in many different flavours in very affordable price. The apple pie is also delicious and there are many varieties of Belgian beers! But it's definitely not a super good taste restaurant, so only four stars for it.

We went there at lunch time on Wednesday, it was fairy quiet but not completely empty. Belgian beer from tap tastes fresh and good!

We had Mussels pot and side salad, both of them tastes so goods and generous serving :) Atmosphere is good too, classic style timber furniture & fittings, and we are so impressed to see some old heritages excavated from the site, just like mini-museum!

Staff are very friendly and helpful, thank you for your warm & easy going reception :)

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

We came for their mussels - their specialty other than beer. The broth that the mussels were cooked in was tasty and flavourful, but it was a shame the mussels did not take up the flavour. Quite a few weren't open too, which suggests they weren't the freshest. The pork knuckle came out cold inside, which led us to believe it was cooked earlier during the day and simply microwaved to order. Disappointing. It's not that we wouldn't come back again, but maybe next time we'd see what else is available before returning.

Mussels are very fresh and wide range of beer selections. Very good place for groups to hang out!

A nice "brown café" style bar. The staff is very friendly. Had the Tin Tin Au Congo mussels and the Blue Cheese mussels, both delicious and served with fries and mayo (just like you get them in Belgium). Great range of Belgian Beers (shame on the guy who commented this is a German beerbar!) Belgian beers rule!

Really good German beer hall and restaurant. I got there a little late to experience the vibe but still seemed like a wonderful place.
