So great! Went as a party of 5, so pretty lucky to score a seat - space is tight, so definitely snug, but the amazing cakes and excellent coffee make it well worth the trip.
Obviously their famous watermelon cake is delicious, but also had a lychee cake which was just incredible. Thanks for being awesome, guys!

I love visiting this place. The coffee great and the staff are friendly. The pastries look delicious and I've tried a few. Good on them for doing vegan and gluten free.

Legendary Water Melon Cake with Lychee. Never had a cake with such a freshness and juicyness like that. The aroma from the rose water perfectly nuances the deliciousness of the cake. Fantastic dessert for an afternoon snack. The place might be a bit small, so I always phone order for take away.

The cake that never gets out of fashion, the infamous strawberry watermelon cake. Whenever I'm in need of a birthday cake, this is the my go to cake. Those perfect layers, the cake is as visually pleasing as it is delightfully tasting. Not too sweet, very well balanced. It never disappoints. It is a true icon. I always order larger cakes online, you can skip the line when picking it up at the store.

Came here for the Insta-Famous Strawberry Watermelon cake and was not disappointed, it was just sensational - highly recommended.
We returned the next day to buy a larger size for take away and ordered & paid over the phone to beat the queue as pickup available at their shop next door with no queue.

Their signature peace is the strawberry watermelon cake which has people lining out the door and to be honest I think this is probably a case of each to their own. Obviously it's popular for many people and the fruit in it is definitely fresh it's a new combination that I had not seen or heard of before but I don't think I would specifically get the cake again. It also looks like there's some other really tasty food there but I haven't tried it yet. The cake is very expensive for 2 very small slices it is $16. Basically my suggestion would be try something else at the same place.

Pies were amazing! That new Japanese Katy's pie. And of course how can we not love that cake!

Had this place recommend by my french housemate for croissants. Honesty best croissant I had in 5 years of not being anywhere near France . The cakes look awesomely great presented, which kinda puts me off eating them. If I could I would give 5 stars for Croissant but considering the price I'll have to make it 4. Again , no critics .. this is just Sydney prices you gotta pay if you expect such good quality.

Tried different types of cakes but my favorite was definitely the watermelon cake. The watermelon cake was mouthwatering, flavorful and delightful. During our two-week trip to Sydney, we went to Black Star Pastry twice and it was INCREDIBLE!

I've been a long time fan, and had decided to try the new lychee cake. unfortunately not a huge fan of rocky road and it was also a tad too sweet. everything else here was so good though ;)

I bought an orange almond cake for my own birthday because in store at Black Star bakery they give a generous slice. The actual cake to serve 6-8 (tea size servings) is no bigger than the palm of my hand and I wouldn't have bought a cake from here for $37 if I knew. Also the actual cake is so small there is 30% volume of icing and unneeded, frivolous decorations. I'm really disappointed and won't buy a cake from this bakery again.

Black star had a pop up store at the Melbourne noodle markets.

The watermelon cake is very refreshing and delicious. It's creamy, juicy, crispy and presented very well.

The $8 price tag is a tad steep but it's worth a try if you have never tried it.
