Bobs Farm - Sandy Hills Premium Avocados

Sandy Hills Premium Avocados is located in Bobs farm, Port Stephens (45 minutes north of Newcastle) on approximately 17acres. We are a small family run business, owned and operated by the Brunt family for 8 years. We grow six varieties of Avocados that are all picked at various times during our picking season which runs from the beginning of July to the beginning of November. We pride ourselves on trying to provide the most sustainably produced crop that has the least amount of impact on the environment, our children's, ours and our customers health. We are currently in the process of transitioning our farm to be completely organic - by increasing the mulch and compost layers of our soil beneath the trees to inhibit weed growth and therefore have to spray less. Furthermore, we do not and have never sprayed any insecticides /pesticides /copper sprays on our trees. For the past year we have been investing in a biological control program with Bioresources to help prevent the occurrence and damage from the fruit spotting bug. In brief we have been releasing Anastatus (wasp) - an egg parasitoid of spotting bugs to increase the natural enemy activity against fruit spotting bug and eliminate the need for chemical control as the species moves south from QLD (where it is very prevalent and needs to be sprayed). We have never sprayed our crop for the fruit spotting bug and hope to continue to do so with the introduction of this biological control method. We take great pride in only selling a quality product that is sustainably grown by us and our priority is our children and customers health. We know exactly how our produce is grown, how it is treated, picked and selected for market.
