Byte My Chip Custom Computers Description

Byte My Chip uses high quality components to deliver to you a good looking, high speed desktop computer targeted to your specific usage.

All systems will be designed with a future upgrade path in mind, minimising the lost investment when it comes time to upgrade. Reducing the upgrade costs further is our lifetime free labour on upgrades to systems purchased from us.

We also use highly efficient power supplies to reduce ongoing costs of using your machine.

All machines are personally assembled, and undergo thorough stress testing prior to delivery to ensure the ultimate in stability and thermal performance.

Operating systems are undertaken with a clean install with no preloaded trial software or promotional software, speeding your computer up further.

Further, we benchmark all machines so you can be sure you are getting the high performance computer you desire.

This was cringe worthy.
If you are looking to build a PC, please watch many tutorials and read plenty of guides. That way you can avoid making the mistakes in this video.
The thermal paste was particularly poor. If your cooler comes with paste it will be completely adequate.

Sometimes your team won't just follow your sensible lead so they pull in the other direction.

With RTX coming out soon, are you thinking about upgrading?
My advice on upgrading; only do it when your computer isn't doing what you want it to do fast enough.
For example, my system is currently running a 5th generation 5820k. Whilst there is a lot of performance to be gained with an 8700k, this system does everything I want it to do fast enough for me.

Jumping back into Portal 2 this struck me so hard. Also, I can no longer think with portals.
Are there any games where you've had this feeling?

Flash back Friday.
Spending way too long hiding cables

Who here uses virtual machines?
They are great for protecting data, enabling you to isolate data in the virtual machines. This means viruses can't get through and if your machine is infected, you can start again, or easily restore to before the virus.

Confirm your order before 30 September 18 and I'll add a 240GB SSD
This system is a great starter for 1080p, with enough oomph to run modern titles, and even do a bit of streaming if you wanted to.

So Nvidia's RTX cards are a massive step in the ability for real time ray tracing to take place. Ray tracing provides for far more realistic imagery, better shadows, and accurate reflections
How ray tracing works, is light 'rays' are sent out from the camera position into the scene, and then tracked to see what objects they hit, and whether they bounce into a light source or not.
Whilst this seems backwards to light been sent out of a light source and into the camera, it dram...atically reduces processing time as only the rays that would reach the camera are processed.
Currently this can only be done as post production, and can take hours for complex scenes. In fact, it is so intensive a workload, that I use it as part of my benchmarking suite of systems I build.
The fact that Nvidia have managed to get this to be done at even the reportedly low 30fps is a staggering feat. It will be interesting to see what happens with this, whether it will be widely adopted, or will it be another Hairworks that didn't really gain traction in game development.

When the convention centre wifi is better than your home internet...I wonder what they consider 'fair use'?😂

User

One benefit of a custom computer from me is no bloatware!
So many prebuilts come with useless software that starts on boot. This can dramatically impact performance of the system, to the negative.

User

Nvidia have released 'performance data' with no reference to what the y- axis is...
This comes after someone claimed only 30fps at 1080p in the new Tomb Raider game utilising ray tracing. This isn't unexpected for me, but seems some people are appalled by such low frame rates.

What did you make of Nvidia's announcement at Gamescom?
They announced their new RTX2070, 2080, and 1080ti that can do real time ray tracing. This has the potential to bring great realism to graphics within games.
However their keynote speech was lacking performance metrics. This makes me sceptical as to whether they will be a large jump to the current generation.

User

Nvidia's announcement is happening around 2am AEST, will you be staying up to watch it?
Side note, 3000 viewers for a countdown... seriously

Nvidia are doing a talky thing on Monday about their new GPU's.
I can't wait to see what they show! Will this be your time to upgrade?

12 months on, and the leap from 14nm transistors to 10nm or 7nm seems as far away as ever.
AMD's new RYZEN 2 has a small increment to the 12nm process, with Intel now saying that 10nm won't come until 2020.
How much longer will we be using silicon chips?

User

With Nvidia allegedly releasing its next generation cards soon, obsolescence is going to hit me hard soon!

User

RAM is one of those components that doesn't make a huge difference until you don't have enough, and then it is crippling to performance.
What is the most you have seen used on your system?

User

So Threadripper 2 is almost here, and my goodness, what an absolute beast!
With up to 32 cores and 64 threads, this is a truly ridiculous amount of computing power.
With a Cinebench score of some 6000 (when overclocked) it is the highest performance desktop CPU out!
