About Canteen Australia

We get it. Just when life should be full of possibilities, cancer crashes into a young person's world and shatters everything. Canteen is the game changer. We help young people cope with cancer in their family. Through Canteen, they learn to explore and deal with their feelings about cancer, connect with other young people in the same boat and if they've been diagnosed themselves, we provide specialist, youth-specific treatment teams. By feeling understood and supported, young people develop resilience and can rebuild the foundations that crumbled beneath them when cancer turned their life upside down. That's how Canteen is the difference. (ABN: 77 052 040 516)

Canteen Australia Description

We get it. Just when life should be full of possibilities, cancer crashes into a young person’s world and shatters everything. CanTeen is the game changer.

We help young people cope with cancer in their family. Through CanTeen, they learn to explore and deal with their feelings about cancer, connect with other young people in the same boat and if they’ve been diagnosed themselves, we provide specialist, youth-specific treatment teams.

By feeling understood and supported, young people develop resilience and can rebuild the foundations that crumbled beneath them when cancer turned their life upside down. That’s how CanTeen is the difference.

Today we celebrate & thank: The seasoned-pro dads. The new dads. The men who yearn to be a dad. The dads of fur-babies.... The dads that have a child that is unwell. The dads that are unwell themselves. The dads who have lost a child. The dads that are no longer with us. The superdads that are both mum & dad. And all the dads in between. Happy Father's Day.

Our annual Youth Leadership Festival was created to inspire our young people to lead and excel both within and beyond CanTeen. Over three days, more than 80 of CanTeen's young leaders came together to engage in skill-building talks and workshops and participate in our Annual General Meeting. Take a look at some snaps from this year's festival, which took place over the weekend.

Our ‘Good Grief’ Program is specially designed to support young people whose parent or sibling has died from cancer. The three-day program enables a group of bereaved young people to come together and talk about their experiences, explore their feelings and build their coping and resilience skills. Take a look at this snapshot of a recent under 18's Good Grief Program we held in NSW.

"75% of the community have not had end-of-life discussions with their loved ones and less than 10% die with an advance care plan," says CanTeen Psychosocial Team Leader Ali Nott.
This Dying to Know Day, we're joining the conversation and asking the question: "Before I die I want to..."
#D2KDay is a national day of action encouraging Australians not to wait to talk about death. To learn more, visit: www.dyingtoknowday.org

July is Sarcoma Awareness Month, an important time to bring attention to the need for more research into this space.
Through our Australian Young Cancer Patient Clinical Trials initiative, we'll be funding four clinical trials, one of which is focusing on young Australians with recurrent Ewing Sarcoma. It's a type of cancer that often affects young people, but currently has extremely poor outcomes and no clear standard of care.

Meet Clarissa, a two-time cancer survivor, diagnosed at just 2.5 years old. Clarissa is passionate about improving the psychological care available to adolescents and young adults with a serious illness.
Young people like Clarissa are the reason why what CanTeen does is so important. Together with our AYA Cancer Global Accord partners, Teen Cancer America & Teenage Cancer Trust, we will be funding research aimed at developing a training blueprint for health professionals having critical end of life conversations with young people facing a potentially incurable cancer diagnosis.
