Castle Hill Tavern

Good options on the menu. We came for lunch on Monday. They had lunch specials on weekdays and senior classics 7 days a week. There were other specials for example Monday nights all meals under $28 are $15.

The two seniors who were dining with me ordered a fish and chips and chicken schnitzel, chips and gravy. I ordered the chicken schnitzel lunch special which appears to be identical except seniors get a discounted price.

This is a bistro so you order and pay at the counter and you get a buzzer for your meal. I was told gravy does not come with the schnitzel and was charged extra for it. Fair enough....I have no problem paying for something if it doesn't come with it.

Went back to the table and looked at the menu and it was very clear that the girl at the counter made a mistake as gravy is included in the meal. Went back and asked her and she was so rude!!! She told me it was only a couple of dollars in a sarcastic tone. That is not the point is it??? Whether it is $1 or $50, if you made a mistake, apologise and refund the money to the customer. That's all. You don't have to say anything else! And why should a customer pay extra for something that is already included in the meal?!

Next were the meals. I would rate the meals very average. The fish tasted like the frozen variety and the schnitzel was oily on the outside, dry and tough inside. The meals were inconsistent. The seniors' meals came with salad eventhough it wasn't suppose to and my schnitzel had no salad and the whole meal looked like it was just thrown on the plate. AND I also got a garlic cream sauce instead of gravy because 'apparently' that was what I ordered! They finally changed it to gravy.

By then I have lost my appetite from all the cumulated issues. This place is a thumbs down for me. That girl behind the cash register needs to improve her attitude.

Beer tasted bad as if lines were unclean...got a oh well response when commenting on it... also manager was very rude to us when me and work crew went there for lunch in bistro kicking 1 of us out for no ID when he wasnt even drinking and we were there for food...her own interpretation of the law i expect... wouldnt even listen to logic...wont go there again..will give our money to a better establishment

$4 happy hour, friendly staff, don't get kicked out for dropping occasional 'f' bomb...unlike 'heavy attitude bouncer' at Hillside Tavern recently. Have a beer at Castle Hill Tavern anytime

How the mighty have fallen. This used to be the place to be on Saturday night. Now it's just a bit depressing.

Bistro food is OK but definitely overpriced. They advertise children eat free on Saturday and Sunday (with a main meal) yet when I ordered I was advised there is a $20 minimum spend on the main ... there's no mention of this condition anywhere in their advertising. There's also no mention of what they consider as "main meals" in the menu.

If they want to compete with nearby venues like Castle Hill RSL or Hillside Hotel they'll need to do better. If they didn't serve Reschs I wouldn't drinking there.

Reasonably priced drinks. Not the best wine menu but beer is okay.
Food is typical pub. The pizzas are a decent size but nothing to write home about. Beer battered chips are nice and the burgers look good too. They have lunchtime specials and week day specials.

Really nice food and service, came here my last 2 nights in a row in town, wish i knew about it earlier. 5 stars 😊

Nice food although the service needs improvement

Had our engagement party here upstairs on the balcony- best decision. Great food staff and atmosphere, highly recommended

the place needs a bloody reno, everything about it is chat. the kitchen staff are NOT friendly and the quality of food is crap. not worth eating here unless you're dying
