2 pairs of quakers in aviaries side by side, same size aviaries with the same size nest boxes.. The second pair breed every year in their plain box with sawdust and a bit of grass etc. The first pair have built a lovely house made of mostly casuarina leaf/twigs. I find the casuarinas and just plain long thick grass make the best material for nest building by quakers. Sticks become complicated nests with hard spiky bits that are often hard to negotiate when checking eggs and babies.

Great excitement when you do anything in the Queen aviary. In this case a new nestbox.

Glossy Black baby having it`s first look at the world next to Mum. Great pic from Sarah who noticed little Foo trying to peep out.

Finally Rain to ease the drought and a beautiful rainbow to signify a fresh start. Hope we get more rain to help the drought stricken land and all the creatures and farmers in need.

Here`s trouble !! My 2 little girl Glossy Blacks. Up on their bucket and starting to fly. Actually they are quite the easiest in the birdroom when taking off in the early days. Very gentle in their flight. Unlike the more hectic amazons, macaws etc.

Jardine Parrots. Were handraised and have male and female available for sale. Great birds with a different personality.

This is what happens when you decide that DinkiDi amazon and Woodford african grey need more space to enhance their training. The mother of all indoor cages. The people who supply these cages must have a laugh to themselves about how the new owners are going to cope with the gross lack of instruction...!!! ..but somehow we managed to put it all together. Jellicle cat moved in first to inspect this new atrocity that appeared in her loungeroom. Then the birds moved in and to all intents and purposes are pretty unfazed about the new accommodation. I on the other hand can no longer see the TV when I am doing the birdfood in the kitchen but perhaps that is a good thing. And we had to take out a lounge chair for more space. But no worries.....all in the name of good bird keeping.

Excitement is never far under the surface when it comes to Umbrella cockatoos.

part 2 and legring is on and a feather is taken for DNA sexing. Then Dad flies onto Tullara`s head, showing another tame Glossy that is still a very good breeder.

Had to put film in 2 sections so this is part one. Putting the legring on the baby Glossy. Part 2 the legring is on and I take a feather for DNA sexing. Then Dad Glossy lands on the head of Tullara who is filming. Another tame male showing he can cope with the handling of his chick.

The unique baby call of the 2 baby glossy blacks I am rearing.

User

Another baby Glossy Black. This pair have a much deeper log than the other 2 pairs. However they refuse to eat Casuarina cones [their natural food ] which is frustrating to say the least. They successfully rear their babies so I guess that is OK !!!.
